well i did cry throughout the film it is just to sad you need to see it you will love it Setsuko and Seita are brother and sister living in wartime Japan. After their mother is killed in an air raid they find a temporary home with relatives. Having quarreled with their aunt they leave the city and make their home in an abandoned shelter. While their soldier father's destiny is unknown, the two must depend on each other to somehow keep a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs. When everything is in short supply, they gradually succumb to hunger and their only entertainment is the light of the fireflies.

One of those movies you have to see I suppose. Very good film although it didn't make me cry it was a sad depiction of what were times were like during the war times. I watched the subbed version instead of the dubbed because I think the dubbed voices is less emotionate. Recommended. 9/10

this is by far one of the saddest and most beautiful movie I've ever seen! It's just brilliant! made cry like a baby though... 10/10 I recommend it every time that I can!

I watched this movie about a year ago and I was actually really surprised when I started crying. GREAT MOVIE!

Oh my god this movie is horrible, so freaking terrible. I mean, it's a total cinematic masterpiece; moving, detailed and has the ability to touch your heart. It just happens to use the ability to touch your heart to rip said heart out of your chest and stomp it into the ground. So that makes it horrible. It's definitely worth watching once, and then never ever again. And keep tissues handy. You. Will. Cry.

After 20mins i just found it so bloody slow and boring and its the 2nd time of trying. i'll stick to spirited away, least thats good from the off.

this is the first ever anime ive watched and its brilliant :D

This was a pretty phenomenal movie. It does a great job of showing some of the postwar experience in Japan. Many people forget that anime does take the real and somber route from time to time. This is a wonderful example of how anime can be much more than the display of fantasy that the mainstream population thinks it is.

You are tragically misinformed. The true war criminals are in fact the Japanese who committed some of the most heinous war atrocities to date, inflicted on not only neighboring nations but to there own people as well. Murdering, raping of woman, bayoneting of infants, cannibalism of prisoners, and conscription of woman into sexual slavery to name a few. These were not a means to an end but rather sheer senseless brutality. They have yet to apologize for any of these wrongs and have literally rewritten history to suit there own purposes. The Nanjing Massacre is good place to start, i believe over 300,000 innocent people were murdered. Boo hoo this should be watched with repugnance as they are the true war criminals.

wow, this movie was just so depressing. I was in tears at the end,literally. And to think that this is what people went through back in the day during the war. A brilliant movie no a masterpiece....11/10

It's breathtakingly beautiful. And completely heartwrenching. Never have I cried like this because of a movie before. Never has a movie moved me to my core and shattered my heart like this movie did. It is the best movie you never want to see again. 10/10

5/5 from me. All I could do is sob and cry the entire time. one of the saddest studio ghibli movies I have ever seen. There are no words to describe this movie, you have to experience it for yourself.

This movie is okay, I'm not really a big fan of sad movies. At least it opens our eyes up about some of the darkness that lives in our world. 4/5

what a tragic film. endearing and wonderful yet so so sad. its a pity that it broke my heart but didnt manage to squeeze a tear out of me. there are just some scenes that really broke my heart. especially the one where they put water on the fruit drop can to get some of the flavor, oh my heart. i dont blame any country, each have their own WWII sob story, mine abounds with this stuff, i blame war. 10/10 its really awesome though that there arent that much lines the situations speak for themselves :)

One of my most favourite Ghiblis of all time and everytime I watch it, It touches my Heart and Soul also touches me very emotionally as it reminds me of the harsh reality in the third world and how there are kids as young as 4yrs old having to survive on their own, This Animation I would advise anyone that has not seen it to give it a go and I promise you it will touch you as it is written superbly and is Awesome in every way.........5/5

A must watch. Sad, inspiring and beautiful. Shows the terrible consequences of war which are often ignored. If it doesn't affect you in some way, you weren't really watching or something is wrong with you.

i may be one of the few that did not cry for this movie, but it is a tragic heart felt story and it was beautiful, its sad to think that something like this could of most likely happened during the war, which is why we should never forget the sacrifices of others for the peace we live in today, even those who did not partake in the war! 9.5/10 you HAVE to watch this atleast once!

Sad but realistic. My mum is a post-war survivor and she's haunted by the sadness till this day. It never really ends, just like this movie which stays with you.

Great anime watched it long ago very sad look @ what happened after the bomb or bombs drop, can't believe they made a live action film.
