Life is more complex than you could make up. This is an outstanding film and never tire of watching it.

A pitch-black farce set around a patriarch's 60th birthday party. Festen is certainly shocking and provocative, but this dysfunctional upper class family, even in its darkest hour, can still clink the glasses and carry on with the party. The hand held camera makes you feel like an uninvited guest at a dirty laundry; an unquestionable must-see.

Detailed Danish movie. The culture is interesting and their approach in solving the sexual abuse in the family is very different from now a days. Well made movie.

I agree with previous comments. Unusual, complex and totally awesome! I felt like a guest at that party who despite the tension never wanted to go home.

Over the top!! This is what I call real horror, folks. Someone said it's like Lars von Tries and Woody Allen put in one.

This is like a modern day Greek or Roman tragedy, the film was awesome! It started a little slow, the camera is a little weird but it all plays into the tragedy. This movie can either be a play or remade into a newer modern day movie in America. This film is excellent, very underground and a good find for those enough lucky to see it. I give it a 5.5 / 6.0

Fine movie. I think the way it was done was god. The acting and storyline were very good. The storyline was very disturbing. If you like movies like this then it is worth seeing.

Celebration is powerful, intense, dark drama about a dysfunctional family with a big secret, The script is brilliant and brutally frank, The superior acting by the entire cast is absolutely wonderful and makes you feel the emotions of those who are living The Celebration, there is no special effects and no soundtrack to insult the viewer, telling us what to feel and when, just a shaky, hand-held camera and natural lighting, a style that makes the whole experience extremely realistic and gripping, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 9/10
