It's a nice clssic, its very good beginning and story, almost everything is very good. The end was not so good because when they swim in to land you wanna see them meet their family and all meet everyone on the island. i think that i will give it a 4 of 5!

When a Great White Shark chooses the waters off peaceful holiday destination Amity Island for its feeding ground, the local population find themselves in a difficult position. Not wanting to deter the tourists that are so essential to local trade, the mayor initially tries to downplay the danger, but once it becomes apparent the shark is there to stay, police chief Brody (Scheider) must call on experts for help.

When Steven Spielberg began production on Jaws at the age of 27, he was already considered a bright hope for the future. He had turned out a similarly themed TV movie (Duel in 1971) to critical acclaim and with numerous other TV credits and even a feature film under his belt (The Sugarland Express, 1974) he had experience. However, running a multi-million dollar production with clashing stars, unpredictable weather and an unreliable mechanical monster would take its toll on even the most seasoned director and Spielberg was worried.

The first achievement of Jaws is that it contains no evidence of these problems. It stands as an audacious and masterful example of modern cinema, one of few films that cam be described as absolutely perfect in every way. John Williams' indelible score, the sublime editing, gorgeous cinematography and perfect casting and acting all contribute to putting it streets ahead of contemporary mainstream cinema, let alone contemporary horror cinema. The bold decision to tease the viewer with tantalizing glimpses of the shark until the very end (Spielberg modestly jokes because it never worked) is hugely successful, making the phantom-like monster all the more of a threat. And the tension is worthy only of Hitchcock. The moment Hooper (Dreyfuss) discovers that the sunken boat of Ben Gardner (Kingsbury) isn't quite deserted provides one of the most notorious and effective shocks in cinema. And with the cheer inducing finale providing the ultimate in satisfaction, it's fair to say a better horror-thriller will probably never be made.

Every once in a while the right talented people are at the right place together and come up with a masterpiece. "Jaws" is definitely one of those movies, that is thanks to the amazing cast and the crew the classic masterpiece that it is today.

Let's face it, the story is dumb and silly and in a way very average. Spielberg magically turns the silly story into a tense exciting thriller with brilliant dialogue and classic scene's. Mark my words, "Jaws" is a movie that will never be considered outdated.

Everything in the movie works so well! The acting, the dialogue, the tension, the typical Spielberg humor, the music, everything! It's hard to name just one thing why this movie is such a masterpiece. It is the mix of everything combined that makes the movie work. Probably my favorite thing about the movie would be the dialogue, they are very raw and performed well by the perfect cast. Another thing of course would be the music and I'm not just talking about the main theme but about the entire musical score in general.

The cast is great but they are mainly great together. All of the Scheider/Shaw/Dreyfuss scene's are like three ingredients thrown together and the end result of it is pure gold.

And than Bruce the shark. Yes, he really looks believable even now days.

A real classic masterpiece that launched Spielberg's career

I love watching the Jaws series and if there is one thing nyone who has watched Jaws before and the later shark "horror" film can agree on is that they don't even come close to what Jaws is. It's like after the created this every other shark movie were trying to reach this bar but never quite captured it.

What made Jaws great was not only the acting but the simplicity of the movie. There wasn't alot of graphics, or computerized killing scene or even some outrageous story line it was simply just sharks doing what they do when people are in the water.

This is a true classic and worth watching again hich I'm about to do and the only other shark movie tha came out after this that's worth watching is Deep Blue Sea.
