My favorite film of all time. Period.

It's quite cheesy and over the top a lot of the time but it completely works, a massively underrated film from Orson Welles

The experts (whose view stands, pretty well unchallenged, to this day) consider "Citizen Kane" as a sublime piece of cinematic art; not just a masterpiece but quite possibly the most influential film in history. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards. Filmmakers praise its deeply shadowed cinematography. Critics notice that the use of multiple non-linear narratives to tell the story is ingenious and continues to be employed in great films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Memento". I simply HAD TO watch it. Wikipedia mentions that for the first time in a film, everything is in focus (DEEP FOCUS)- the objects in the foreground, the middle ground, and the background. This allows us to see everything, like a fly on the wall, and freely shift our attention from one part of the image to another. "With everything in focus, it is up to us to choose what to examine." On his death, there is a flurry of interest in the man who was once America’s foremost press magnate, Charles Foster Kane, and the significance of his last single word: "Rosebud" . It is certainly an engaging portrait, through a series of flashbacks, of the rise to fame, as well as the downfall, of an incredibly rich and powerful publisher who fails to find meaning in his life. Seventy years after completion it is frequently entertaining and it still doesn’t feel all that dated (apart from the fact that it isn’t in colour). However, I can’t say I agree with the consensus that Citizen Kane is the best film of all time. It’s definitely well made, and I ended up caring about the character; probably in top 250 film list, my personal point of view. Maybe as a first-time viewer I expected more than it could possibly deliver. The ending though is a winner, you can't live the rest of your life without seeing "Citizen Kane" and without knowing the meaning of "Rosebud" !!

Groundbreaking cinematography! Two hours of plot and drama to prove why this is and will always be a cult classic!!!! must see!

This is one of my favorite movies, it's a classic obviously. Just watch it and enjoy 9/10 "rosebud"

I guess I need to be older to appreciate this so called classic. I watched it with lack of interest. I will have to give it another view and see if my taste has changed. I just got to make it another forty four years. I say give it a one time view to say you saw it.
