The undead won't be denied in this fourth installment of the Resident Evil series. The world as mankind once knew it no longer exists, and with the exception of a few resilient survivors all humans have mutated into deadly, flesh-eating zombies. Alice (Jovovich) is a resourceful survivor and hardened warrior who battles against the reprehensible Umbrella Corporation, but before she can lead a definitive strike she has to locate the remaining survivors and Earth's last bit of infection-free haven. The series formula is strained, to say the least, but the film makes effective use of its violent, in-your-face 3-D action scenes, anchored by the scrappy, always reliable Jovovich in the lead. Offers some fun when you don't think about it too much, there just isn't much of a story to tell. A good way to pass the time for series fans, others needn't bother.

This movie was not worse than I expected. However, it wasn't really much better, either. I'm not going to nitpick apart all the places where it failed to do justice to the games it (falsely) claims to draw inspiration from, and frankly there's plenty of other stuff wrong with this movie to warrant a bad review. Pretty mucht 90% of the movie is shot in slow motion, and Milla Jovovich is still just as obnoxious of a female protagonist as she's ever been. Not only is she doing the female equivalent of Christian Bale's Batman voice for the whole thing, but now she makes video blogs throughout the film to convey exposition, which adds an extra layer of tedium to the film's already tedious first half. Secondary characters for the most part only occupy space (BTW, is it just me, or does Ali Larter's face constantly look like it needs to be slapped?), Shawn Roberts eats the scenery like he's in a fan film playing Agent Smith from The Matrix, and there's YET ANOTHER ridiculous amnesia plot device thrown in to conveniently prevent Paul W.S. Anderson from having to write convincing relationships between his characters.

This game does borrow a few elements from the games, but for the most part it borrows from Resident Evil 5 which is unfortunate since that's one of my least favorite in the series-- especially the scarabs, which IMO were a lazy plot device and they're used just as lazily in this film as they were in the game. Again, I don't want to overemphasize what was changed from the games, because even though these things are frustrating to me as a fan they are not ultimately what makes this movie bad. It's Anderson's ridiculously overwrought sense of "style," the brain-dead script, the acting which ranges from lethargic to mustachio-twirling levels of ham, and the overall goofiness of the whole thing. I can't say I was disappointed though. It was not any worse than what I expected, and honestly anyone ought to be able to tell what kind of movies these are just by looking at the posters. They're essentially Paul Anderson's multi-million dollar birthday presents for his wife, who happens to play the main character.

Also, I must mention the 3D, which is of mixed quality despite it's claims of "using the technology behind James Cameron's Avatar." The 3D is just as spotty and obnoxious as the rest of the film, and when things aren't flying in your face, they're either too blurry and distorted to make out or just plain 2D looking. However, the extra $3-5 that it adds to the ticket prices has helped ensure that this will be the most profitable movie in the series and that Paul WS Anderson won't stop making them any time soon. My patience for the medium is fast dwindling, and I think next time I see a movie I'll save a few dollars and ask for 2D.

the first movie was amazing, the second movie was even better, the third was crap and this one, well this was followed suit with the third cause it was complete and udder crap! i was so looking foward to seeing the franchise pick back up but i think this one just killed it off, do yourself a favor and just stay away

It was ok I like the part where that giant guy with the hammer ax throws it at Clarie and Alice and misses then gets his head blown off with a shotgun I'm sure that there will be another one cause at the end umbrella comes in by hellicopters

What in the world were they thinking giving birth to another Resident Evil after the flop of the third in the series. I'm not slating all movies produced, as the first and second in the series were a brilliant take on the famous video games, and the character Alice felt fresh and new. Now, the whole plot, which pretty much stays exactly the same through out all four movies may I add, gives the this particular Resident Evil a stale odour.
Even though the visual effects in themselves are impressive, with the freeze screen moments when mortal peril is on the horizon, it lacks originality, as you begin to realise you will not be getting any new surprises from this film.
Even though the Movie ended with a clear possibility of a fifth instalment, lets hope they will not carry on the predictable zombie nightmare!

the series was great l give it a 4 for best pack action their is l liked the monster with the hammer that was based upon resident evil 5 the best-selling video game their is. l hope they continue the series until the people are done. l love resident evil l wounder what the 5th flim is gonna look like if they actually do make it.

I wouldnt normally be someone to knock a Resident Evil film but this just took mick! Its a totall rip-off of Resident Evil 5 (video game). There is also no explaining of how the zombies can suddenly run or that big guy with the axe and the plot was just really weak, but still, im fan of the other Resident Evil films so one "bad apple" isn't going to put me off of the series. I think the only upside to the desecration to the series is the CGI (computer generated images) and the special effects.

Ah . . . well . . . I tell you what. The real reason i wanted to see this is because I wanted to see Milla Jovovich's most recent developments. I've been thinking about adding her to my potential wife list, but I needed to do a final bit of research, you know, just to make sure she should be on that list.

As some of you know who've read my past comments, this list includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Sanaa Lathan, Parminder Nagra, and Norika Fujiwara, to name but four. For that reason, I'm happy to say that I was able to confirm that my dear Ms. Jovovich is someone I'd definitely like to marry. She is now officially on the list : ) I would actually like to congratulate her personally for achieving this honor, but I can't seem to find her phone number. Yet : )

Anyway, one humongous star for Ms. Jovovich. In fact, one star for each incarnation of Ms. Jovovich.

So that's like 300 stars. Sadly, flixster only allows five. So five humongous stars for my possible future wife, although I'll never watch this movie again, and I don't think anyone else should waste their time watching it either. I mean it's reeeally bad. I kid you not. Except for my potential wife, Milla Jovovich, who is reeeeeeeeelly great : )

Can you imagine if her folks had actually had quintuplets, and there were five sisters who were identical. Wow . . . : )

For those people that don't understand why they are all strong and what knot. The zombie creation was suppose to be invented to create superhumans but it went wrong
Zombie>Licker>Nemesis>BigNormalDude>Albert(the perfect form) So Don't Complain just understand!Also the whole thing about it not making since to the story Yes it does. From the first one it was the Mansion from the 1st game. The 2nd movie was Nemesis the game with a little added character (alice) the 3rd one has no game based area because after nemesis the whole thing changed to The woods with Leon Kennedy And right after to Africa with Chris and Sheva so the movie plot just lets us see whats going on back where it all started.
