Wow an amazing movie i never shed tears in a movie before but this story is sick glad i watched it . I highly recommend to watch it 10/10

What a stunning film this is.

I was expecting this movie to be really good after all the positive reviews but honestly I thought it was terrible. I love Ellen Page and I think she is a good actress but while this is based on a true story I found all of the performances to be completely unrealistic. I think the writing was very poor. The Prosecutor in particular was terrible - does anyone believe that he would really question children like that? They wouldn't have even understood what he was asking. I doubt very much that Gertrude was that sympathetic a person in real life. Anyone who can do that, and who obviously terrified her children and other people's children into forcing them to perform acts of torture would have to have been extremely domineering. I didn't get that at all. Very disappointed. 1.5/5

It had to be told...I could not get this out of my head and still cant. The images are still embeded in my memory. Animals do not do this to each other, so what does that make human beings?

Tragic story and film. I agree the book was even more explicit in what happened to this poor child. Very good movie but didn't touch all the atrocities. Very well acted and very heart rendering.

this story was entertaining...i wasn't surprised by the chain of events that took place in this film because this is how people have acted in and out of my life for my entire existence...humans are just evil by nature...it is a shame she had to go through what she did...it is also a shame no one there would help her but rather joined in and tortured her further...typical humans like i said...this movie is definitely worth a run...if you looking for a pick me up movie this is not it...if your looking for reality then you have found it...enjoy!!!

A difficult subject handled well. 46 years later child abuse still occurs on a frighteningly regular basis, with social workers, teachers, relatives, friends and neighbours still ignoring or missing the warning signs. What a sad reflection of our society.

Well...what can i say? There are so many things that are going thru my head right now, they are all jumbled and i dont know if i can get it out and make sense.....First i have to that Catherine Keener was magnificent...grade A acting. Ellen Page was fantastic. I have been watching her for the last 2 weeks in the movie "Inception"...I thought that she was excellent in that movie...as disturbing as this is,she played this perfect. I truly believed that all of this terrible things were really happening to her..I believe that both actresses did their characters justice. As for this excuse of being on "cough syrup", bullshit. Her kids already knew what happens when you lie, cheat or steal..there is and was no excuse for what she did... 10 out of 10...WATCH THIS MOVIE

It takes a lot to make me cry and this movie had me in tears, very good movie but not for the faint of heart

makes me angry, sad, emotional. truly unspeakable what that monster done to that little girl, crimes like this make me look at the world in a very bad way, these evil people, though fewer than the majority good decent people, make this world a very dark and evil place

4/5, Everyone involved in this ordeal should have went to prison for a very long time, the neighbors that didnt say nothing included. somethings you just dont ignore. I wish people werent so passive when bad things are happening to them, i would have been stabbing someone, and i will teach my daughters the same thing, this shouldnt be possible to happen, especially in america

This movie brought tears to my eyes...The pain and suffering that she endured was unbelievable...There are some sick people in the world...This is definitely a good movie to watch.

I watched a Documentary on this story before i seen this movie. Loved the movie by the way... But when i was watching i thought for sure Sylvia died... And the way the movie was going she didn't, But then she does.. Love how they made this movie.. Very sad indeed. :(

Wow. That movie was absolutely disturbing. I cannot believe I made it all the way through. What the mother and other kids did too the girl was absolutely awful. When the mother branded the girl, I wanted to jump through the monitor and slash the mother's throat. What gets me is that she murdered a child, she got life and only served 20 years. That is just disgusting. 6/10.

That poor girl didn't had to be murdered for no apperent reason she died because of a disgusting woman.

that poor girl how could her father trust someone he had only met this should be used as a learning tool for parents all over the world

I hope the people in this are and were haunted by their actions. What was done to this child is unspeakable, but must be spoken of in order to save other people from her fate. There is a special place that has been created for these people and those like them that will be their reward at the time of judgment. RIP Cookie, may you always find your carousel. 9/10

and the hope for that makes u any better ? .... you are truly screwed upo just as well.. and why not a child....( by the wway to the simple minded who read this, no i don't condone it or agree).....a child is worse than anyone else.. no not really... oh and if your a christian ( just saying) you should really be ashamed of yourself and try actually reading your bible for once.... very very sad it was true, but making a fuss over it now or doing more "evil" makes it no better and only u worse :-) keep that in mind ... 4/5
