This abomination of the cinema came about when Paramount had just gotten out of a legal battle over rights to the film classic "Chinatown". While it certainly doesn't stand up to the original, one can justify the raping of the eyes and ears that follows as "It's okay as long as you don't compare it to the original". A pure example of the studios milking their (few) cinematic masterpieces with god awful sequels, none of them seem to compare with this dog. With an insipid plot that seems to make your IQ drop a little, horrible cinematography, and unneeded flashbacks and cut-forwards, "The Two Jakes" leaves a perfect example of how there must be balance in the universe, There are films of the quality of "Lawrence of Arabia" and then there are films of the quality of "The Two Jakes".
