Million Dollar Baby is a movie about boxing like Braveheart is a movie about men in kilts riding horses. What it is is a movie to experience if you find yourself ever entertaining thoughts about loyalty, determination, talent, no talent, age, youth, courage, fear, fate, and the pain and joy of both living and dying.

I read reviews of Million Dollar Baby and expected to like it. Roger Ebert can be soft on movies because he is plainly a big fan, but even he does not lightly toss around the M-word, masterpiece. Yet he drops it on MDB, and justly so. The story is simple and searing. A gal (Hilary Swank) with much heart and no experience aspires to be the champion of the world. She is Rocky in a sports bra. A grizzled fight trainer-manager/gym owner (Clint Eastwood) reluctantly takes her on. His best pal and wise-man assistant (Morgan Freemna) stands alongside them, as the plot unwinds steadily, seamlessly, picking up speed, scene by scene, act after act. Eastwood and Freeman are artists at the top of their profession and they, along with the brilliant Swank, present you the very worthy lives of three people you will care about and remember. The arena is boxing, but it might as well have been boating or baking. It is a story about values and truths that far exceed sports and movies. I walked into the Lowes Lincoln Square theater last night knowing Million Dollar Baby was taking me on a ride and willing to hop aboard. What a beautiful, memorable ride it was

Wow- what an incredible movie! There are so many layers to this film, one could almost see it 4 times and get something new out of it every time. I loved first and foremost its message that we create ourselves through our drive, loyalty, ambition, dedication, and work. Secondly, I love its insistence in the good of the American Dream, and I loved its excitement and beautiful, touching message toward the end. A movie about violence and ambition that evolves into a movie about love, hard-earned sacrifice, and doing something meaningful with one's life. Grade A entertainment with a beautiful message to boot! Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood should both win their second Oscars for their contribution to cinema.

This film is amazing.. Such an original story line, it had me captivated from the very beginning to the end... The acting was amzing, I absaloutly love Hilary Swank... Its a shame it had such a sad ending, but it was an unbelievable film... I'd love to be that good at boxing...:L x

Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran boxing trainer who has devoted his life to the ring and has precious little to show for it; his daughter never answers his letters, and a fighter he's groomed into contender status has paid him back by signing with another manager, leaving Frankie high and dry. His best friend and faithful employee Eddie Dupris is a former fighter who Frankie trained. In his last fight, Eddie suffered a severe injury, a fact that brings Frankie great guilt. However, Maggie sees boxing as the one part of her life that gives her meaning and won't give up easily. Finally won over by her determination, Frankie takes on Maggie, and as she slowly grows into a viable fighter, an emotional bond develops between them. When a tragedy befalls one of the three characters, each comes to a decision that shows how the relationships in the film have changed them. Adapted from a short story by F.X. Toole, a former corner man with years of experience in the fight game, Million Dollar Baby also stars Morgan Freeman, Anthony Mackie, and Mike Colter.

this is one of the very best movies ever made, one of my very most favorites. i really started respecting and praised Mr. Clint Eastwood as a director after this movie, no doubt about it that he is one of the Best Directors of Hollywood right now. i saw this movie again a few days back but didn't got time to review it.

this is a sports movie, boxing drama about a girl, Maggie who want's to compete and become a champion by training under Frankie played by Clint Eastwood who first doesn't but then he does. he slowly sees spark in her and she proves to him what is she capable of. Morgan Freeman stars as Eddie, a former failed boxer working with Frankie. she wins everything, almost the big championship but an accident happens that makes her severely ill and she can't walk or talk, she is on a complete bed rest. this movie ends very sadly that made me broke into tears, i was crying so much.

with 7 Oscar nominations it won 4 including, Best Picture, Director, Actress in a lead role Hillary Swank and Actor in a supporting role Morgan Freeman. and other nominations were Best actor in a lead role Clint Eastwood, Editing and Adapted Screenplay.

Hillary Swank delivers a superb performance, one of the best female performances of the recent history truly. i was quite amazed by her work in this movie. she was THE it for this movie. a tour de force it is. just superb. Morgan Freeman on the other hand was really good too. i always like his performances but he was really superb in this movie. on the other hand people and critics don't really talk about Clint Eastwood's performance he deserves some little recognition too, he was really good too. so overall this movie has some very memorable brilliant performances. other actors are Anthony Mackie, Jay Baruchel , Mike Colter , Lucia Rijker , Brian F. O'Byrne , Margo Martindale , Riki Lindhome , Ned Eisenberg.

Directed brilliantly by Clint Eastwood, perfect direction it is. i loved the background score at places, though there wasn't many used but in places it was so good to listen to. screenplay was very good written by Paul Haggis. it kept my interest from the start to till the end. story is inspiring, touching and shows the human spirit of a person and sportsmanship. it is one of the best sports movies ever. i liked it far more than Rocky. this movie has a reall sad ending which was painful to watch for me. really depressing movie. it also features good editing and art direction.

i just purely love this movie, best of 2004 and one of the best movies of all time. a compelling watch. MUST WATCH.

Clint Eastwood plays the role of a boxing trainer/manager and Hilary Swank is an aspiring female amateur boxer. She has big dreams of becoming a champion someday and rising to the top of womens boxing. She insists that if she trained with the best trainer in the business her dreams would become a reality and she would rise to the top. The only problem is that Frankie Dunn (Eastwood) doesn't "train girls."

Maggie (Swank) does not let this deter her and she convinces him to train her. The relationship that they develop is beautiful as he becomes a sort of father figure for her. This movie is a must watch for all boxing fans and although it takes a tragic twist towards the end it is nothing short of amazing!

Saw "Million Dollar Baby" in Manhattan last night. Clint Eastwood, one of the all-time most famous actors -- and directors -- has more than enough money where he could choose to pull the strings on block-buster, mindless action pictures, ala Jerry Bruckheimer, or comic books. Or, hell, in his twilight years he could just lay back and enjoy his millions. But no. He has chosen instead to make quieter, lower-budget, heart-felt, character driven films like "The Unforgiven" "True Crime" "Mystic River" and now Million Dollar Baby. And the world is a better place for it. Eastwood uses his multiple talents to make films that have something valuable to say. In the emotionally powerful, Million Dollar Baby, he tells an allegorical tale of boxing to subtly express themes of hope, redemption, sacrifice, persistence, and belief in one's self. The movie emphasizes that failure is a more honorable and personally fulfilling trait than never having tried, while also frowning upon laziness and leeching off others. But see the movie and judge for yourself. I personally consider great films as the ones where I leave the theater with a better understanding of human nature, or a desire to improve the world by even a little bit. Eastwood's latest more than succeeds on those counts.

The movie is a masterpiece. It is hands down one of the best movie you will ever see. Million Dollar Baby is about a boxer who struggles in his personal life and find all the joy in boxing. Because of her perseverance and stubbornness
Frankie Dunn(clint Eastweood) who is a experienced trainer takes her under his wing and made her a championship contender. I dont want to be a spoiler and ruin the movie. So I will just keep it to that. Million Dollar movie is one of the most depressing movie I have ever seen and really feel the movie could have ended differently but then again we would have lost the greatness of this film.
Clint Eastwood did a wonderful job both as a director and actor. Hilary Swank as Maggie was brilliant and truly deserved the Oscar. All in all it was one of the best. I will give it 9/10.
