Out of the Past: Jeff Bailey, small-town gas pumper, has his mysterious past catch up with him one day when he's ordered to meet with gambler Whit Sterling. En route to the meeting, he tells girlfriend Ann his story. Flashback: Once, Jeff was a private eye hired by Sterling to find his mistress Kathie who shot Whit and absconded with $40,000. He traces her to Acapulco...where the delectable Kathie makes Jeff forget all about Sterling... A slower moving film, but a definite masterpiece! Acting and plot were superb. Without a doubt this is a must see! I give it 5/5.

Film historians consider "Out of the Past" a superb example of film noir.The film featured many of the genre's hallmarks: a cynical private detective as the protagonist,a femme fatale,multiple flashbacks with voiceover narration, dramatically shadowed photography,and a fatalistic mood leavened with provocative banter.Excellent performances by Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer...this movie is definitely worth taking time to watch.

Snappy dialogue, great story, dark shadows, and lying women. What's not to like?

Wonderful film noir. The acting was really great. Excellent plot. A MUST SEE!
