This movie will bring you to tears. You may ask why would he do such a thing, give up everything to go venture out into the wilderness. But haven't people been doing this for centuries? No, he wasn't trying to map out some exploration to some place but simply trying to spread his wings. Unfortunately, he wasn't prepared and didn't have all the facts about the world at large. I could see why he may have just wanted to get away from it all. The fighting that was going on at home and the pressure to succeed got to be too much for him and escape just seemed like the right thing to do. We have all made mistakes and I just wish his did not end like this. It was heart wrenching to see the real Christopher at the end; you just wanted to reach out into the movie and give him a hug. This is not like your typical fast moving movie but it is still just as effective. Really worth watching.

Into the Wild is a fascinating film about a young man's journey to find himself, made all the more engrossing by the fact that it is based on a true story. Director Sean Penn follows the same route Christopher McCandless took to his final destination in Alaska. Penn clearly admires Christopher and it is hard not to share his feelings. The story ends tragically yet this is not what the movie is about - at a time when greed seems so rampant in society, we see a young man refusing to compromise his ideals and an amazing assortment of people who are willing to help him on his way without asking for payment or thanks. Despite the outcome, this is really a story of hope and the innate goodness of man and Sean Penn has created a movie which is both beautiful and inspiring.

This movie is sooooo good... It doesn't matter what genres you like or what if you have any kind of human soul at all you will love this lol. Emile hirsch does such a great job and the one of the best parts to me is that it really happened. I cant even watch the dvd menu without shedding a tear (lame)so if you haven't seen this drop whatever you happen to be doing and watch it.

A high-functioning schizophrenic? The 21st century youth culture reincarnation of John Gault? Or just a kid going through a difficult time and looking for some distance to sort it all out?

Sean Penn's pop-philosophical examination of this young man's voyage across America, to Alaska, and to the depths of his young soul will give you an interpretation at least. While it is not clear exactly whose interpretation we are seeing, it is very clear that Penn respects his subject and gave this film about as much thought and power as he could inject it with. And the film did remind me of something very true about the self-righteous naiveté of youth.

I am not concerned at all with the accuracy of the film, and, while it is tempting to compare this film to Werner Herzog's excellent but less fictionalized "Grizzly Man", the subjects are really too widely disparate; Herzog and Penn's perspective on humanity is too different to produce a meaningful comparison. The targets of this comparison, too big and too easy. But I will make one comment about the two films - Penn's film is much more or a tribute to its protagonist than Herzog's.

I found Into the Wild to be a gripping, thoughtful film. The script was good, but sometimes a bit pretentious - occasionally crossing the line between character development and character worship. Penn's direction and cinematography are masterful. The acting - every member of the cast included - is absolutely excellent.

Recommended - but not for light cheerful entertainment.

Simply THE BEST movie I have ever seen. Alex Supertramp follows his dreams wherever they take him across the entire United States and up to Alaska and doesn't let anything stand in his way! He overcomes huge obstacles, makes life changing decisions, and meets some of the nicest people on the way. With great scenery, amazing actors and actresses, a top-notch true story, terrific music and an ending you'll never see coming...Into The Wild is a great movie to watch (and also an even better book to read) and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of an awe inspiring movie!

Into the Wild...there is not one bad thing I have to say about this movie. I watched it about 4 years ago and to this day it is still the best movie I've seen since then. Matter of fact it's the best movie I've ever seen. It's not my favorite movie because of the action, adventure, or actors...its my favorite movie because of the quotes and lessons this movie taught me. It's one of those movies you never forget about that you come back to whether its a day or a month or even a year and you realize how great the movie really is. This movie is a must.
