Stared in and directed by Mr. Denzel, this is a moving tribute to the great debating team of Wiley College. I enjoyed the casting and the feel of this movie but I felt almost more interested in Washington's character and the sub plot with the farm workers than what happens to the debating team.. Still you cant have it all! a great movie and a sturdy message. ****

Denzel Washington does it again! After watching his perfectly directed Antwone Fisher I decided to give this movie a shot and boy it was glorious:) This had a great story, I find the era this movie is based in to be very interesting. 6.5/10 Although I probably wouldn't buy this movie but I would certainly recommend it to others:D The story kept me interested and had some good performances from some actors. Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washington gave good performances and so did Nate Parker even though I didn't find his character remotely likable. However I did like the character Junior, he was a nice character:) John Heard in in this too and I can tell you one thing, that guy is defiantly typecast. Every movie I have seen him in after Home Alone he has played a bad guys, it's a waste and I get bored of seeing him play the same roles.

I watched this movie several times, and was so moved that I bought the DVD for my own library. What a powerful message in this movie, struggle as you must, fear if you must, and never never give up or give in if you are doing the right thing. I cried and I laughed; this movie will touch on all of your emotions; love, hate, violence, peace, disappointment, and triumphant spirit. Acting is great, story is true and powerful and soul-searching, all put together you get a 9/10. Everyone associated with this movie should be proud of the job they did and the outcome.

a must watch movie...I enjoyed this movie so much and just happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye...never heard of it..but because of history and denzel as lead actor i thought it would be a good watch...not only a good watch but a great film..I am glad to have seen it and reccomend it highly...if nothing alone a true moral being that history cannot and must not repeat itself....for it would be a tragic loss that so many have died and suffered so men could be free....5/5

Very good film. Some very strong lessons on tolerance and equality throughout. I thought it was clever (and somewhat convenient near the end) how their debate topics were paralleled with moral issues in their own lives. A very strong performance by all, overall 8-9/10

filmed in mansfield louisiana my hometown beautiful film it brought a great happiness to me just watching it anyone in search of a really great film should check this out. Cheers.
