for starters amazing i loved it coz i love gaming ''max payne'' is a classic game this showed how cool he was/is but the only thing was the recoil was littel he was using a pump action shotgun and barly moving when shooting it. but it was awsome action 10/10 for the film but i wouldnt really give it an OSCAR coz its not that kinda film.

but besides the point it was worth a watch however u rate it 1/1 5/5 10/10.?! its 100/10

Being a fan of the video game, I did not like how how the screen play drastically changed how the story line when in the video game. I know some movies that are video game or comic related don't always share the game story as the movie but I felt that it should remain the same in this case.

I think the movie would be a lot more enjoyable with the same story line as the game with the characters playing the same role. For instance Jack Lupino was an Italian mob boss in the game and in the movie he's a Marine Sergeant and a test subject for Valkyr (the drug). That's something totally different. It was just weird seeing a Hispanic actor (Amaury Nolasco) playing an Italian mob boss. Nothing against him, he's a great actor but there was a scene of him talking in Spanish playing an Italian character and that just didn't make sense at all. Now I have no problem of something playing a different ethnicity than what they are. Chris "Ludacris" Bridges character Jim Bravura was Caucasian in the game but he did a good job playing that character. I had no problem with that because it didn't contradict the story compared to the story of the game.

Now I can go on and on about how much the story was different from the video game and how much I was disappointed about it but I'll just say what I liked about the movie.

I enjoyed Mark Wahlberg's acting (as usual) but I felt he could have done a better job portraying Max Payne. The action scenes was nice, and I loved the CGI of the Valkyries but it was a little too exaggerated. Milas Kunis did a good job as an actress but I felt she just didn't portray well as Mona Sax an assassin. She just didn't convince me as an assassin. I thought it was cool seeing the Taurus Defender (the revolver Max Payne uses) in the movie. I wish it was used in the movie more but that's okay.

Overall the shoot-em-up action scenes was good, I liked the CGI used, the acting was decent. The story I didn't really like, not only because of the difference compared to the video game story but if I seen this movie without knowing anything about the game, I think it would just confuse me. I give the movie a 7/10. (or in this game 3/5 for this review)

PS Make sure you check out the scene after the credits. Looks like there might be a sequel for the movie. It probably won't be the same story as the sequel for the Max Payne game (Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne). It looks like it will continue the story of the first movie, with Nichole Horne as the main antagonist this time.

wow this was such a weird movie. i mean ok this is a noir action film that is a little sister of Sin City, PG-13 one. it is based on a video game of the same name, i hope the game is not so oddly complicated and silly the way this movie is. a very illogical plot it has and i didn't had any idea where this movie was heading, i mean overdirection. one of the worst movies of 2008.

Mark Wahlberg gave a trashy performance as usual. the rest of the cast isn't that good too. screenplay was extremely flawed. direction was awful. the video game fans would be disappointed.

it however had some good CGI action and production design, some scenes were really nice to watch but the rest of the movie being severely awful, you don't feel good for anything else happening in the movie.

AVOID IT.
