this was excellent. I saw it opening night and man what a good choice! every actor's performance is solid. Jesse Eisenberg is perfect for the title role of Mark Zuckerberg. Also Andrew Garfield was very good as Eduwardo co-founder of facebook. He game off great emotion when he was on screen. Justin Timberlake was also very good i definitely think he should stick to acting. Overall a very good film. i reccomend seeing it in theaters.

What's the point of being rich if you have no friends? The opening credits of The Social Network play over a scene of future Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg) solitarily running across the Harvard campus, passing socializing college kids without a second glance from Zuckerberg. Mark has just been broken up with by this beautiful girl because Mark could not understand the concept of human relationships. All Mark wants to be is somebody, and he gets that wish, if nothing else, in the end.

The Social Network tells the story of the founding of the now famous social networking website, Facebook, and all of the lawsuits and broken relationships it took to create the source of friendships for the 21st century. In a way, writer Aaron Sorkin and director David Fincher have crafted a modern day Shakespearean tragedy. No, there is no murder, but there is a ton of backstabbing. Nowadays, we don't need to kill to usurp power, we just need money, and more of it. Whether Zuckerberg stole the idea for Facebook from some collegiate athletes wanting to make a Harvard dating website or not, this is all irrelevant, the bottom line is, Zuckerberg, like all great tragic heroes, made the wrong alliances (Sean Parker, founder of Napster) and alienated his only real friend (Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook and former CFO).

Actor Andrew Garfield plays Eduardo Saverin with such an emotional range, that I would say Garfield's performance is the heart of the movie. You feel for Eduardo being phased out of the company by his one and only friend and Zuckerberg's new "so-called friend" Sean Parker, played surprisingly well by Justin Timberlake in fantastic acting form. The true reason Eduardo is phased out is never really explained, maybe Mark was always jealous that Eduardo was more popular than he, or that Sean felt threatened by Eduardo's business prowess. The worst part is, and this is what really makes The Social Network a tragedy, is that Mark spent so many hours working on his computer with headphones on, tuning out the rest of the world, that he never listened to reason and lost his only legitimate friend. This turn towards pathos in the final scenes of the movie are played exceptionally well by Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. With just one look, Eisenberg manages to convey a range of unsaid emotions, that while he is still talking like the world's biggest socially awkward jerk, he knows what he's lost.

Maybe I'm too old. No, not maybe, I am. I saw this characters as aliens of sorts. I know they represent today's landscape, brrrrr. The film as a film is one of the best of David Fincher but the universe it explores gave the chills. A world approaching its end, fast. The youth of the characters made it even more sinister. I couldn't detect their soul or any evidence of its existence. In a way they represent the worst of the previous generations. Roman Emperors or Wall Street. Profit is the name of the game and the ideas come out of boredom of longings to get laid. Love and friendship, loyalty and/or honor as obsolete as good manners. Jesse Eisenberg is chillingly perfect as the humanoid that started it all - or did he? - Justin Timberlake keeps surprising me. Good, very good and Andrew Garfield, the most recognizable of the characters is a victim of sorts and he'll be destroyed no matter how much money he gets. How I wish this was merely a science-fiction film.

wow seriously one of the best movies ever and this year's best. was waiting so long for it and i saw it. a brilliant work of cinematic excellence. This is the 2010 Oscar season's first drama to live up to the hype and expectations associated with it.Sorkin's script is also an impeccable achievement and showcases, once again just what a genius this man really is. From a structural standpoint it employs a very effective use of a framing device – the Zuckerberg lawsuit depositions, which introduce the various characters and lead into "flashbacks" of the events being discussed. It really lends the film a Rashomon air and intensifies the mystery behind the Zuckerberg character and what exactly transpired in the creation of this phenomenon, Facebook.

Sorkin also demonstrates an acute awareness of character construction, and manages to create a loathsome protagonist we hate and are frustrated by but yet we still end up sympathizing with. Most of all, though, it's a showcase of Sorkin's impeccable writing style and knack for writing dialogue with a very unique sound and rhythm. I saw Fincher refer to it as "Sorkinese" in an interview, and this is a really good description – it is certainly very unique to Sorkin and the scripts he has written, and it is also certainly a completely unique language – one which normal people in our real world do not speak, but that just sounds great on screen. The rapid-fire, overlapping dialogue remains one of the highlights of the film for me, and the script is certainly a shoo-in for Oscar consideration.

The film is also a rare showcase of pure acting prowess, and features a very interesting and eclectic cast of young actors stepping out of their comfort zones and delivering some truly phenomenal work. The casting of the film is quite a departure for Fincher, who has enough clout to gather the biggest names working in the business. Instead, he opted to go for a cast of relative unknowns or up-and-comers, and really make stars out of them. First and foremost to be mentioned is Jesse Eisenberg, an actor I have personally been a fan of since The Squid and the Whale in 2005 and one whose work I have continued to enjoy since then. However, no matter how good he was in those previous films, none of his previous performances compare to his amazing achievement on this film.

Stripping away his signature goofiness and neurosis, Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg as a cold, calculated and determined genius who knows what he wants, is very confident and forward-looking and will stop at nothing to get it. His counter in the film is Saverin, played brilliantly by Andrew Garfield, a name we will be hearing a lot more of of in the next few years:

Saverin is a far more sympathetic character, more warm and inviting – these traits only increase the impact of the tragedy of Zuckerberg's betrayal of their friendship.Many pundits and commentators have designated this to be the "film that defines our generation", and truly a "product of its time" in the most literal sense of the word. However, I'm not sure I like this designation, especially since once you watch the film, you very quickly realize that this isn't a story about the founding of Facebook; it's really a story of friendship, ambition and betrayal, a character study of this fascinating individual whose actions in the film happen to depict the invention of an online social networking site that gets out of hand and puts all of his relationships, especially that with his best friend and business partner, in jeopardy. All of the themes mentioned above are universal and can be applied to a number of fantastic films and works of fiction over the centuries, and that, I think, is the greatest achievement of the film. The work by the crew and all involved in putting this film together deserve plenty of credit as well. The cinematography by Jeff Cronenweth and the editing work by Kirk Baxter and Angus wall are easily elements that heighten this film. Its look is really fantastic, continuing to find ways that help to make a very talky picture interesting to watch. And the film's assembly was clearly incredibly important, finding ways to construct this film, have it flow at the great pace that it does, and be able to easily move between three different time frames throughout.

Add to that some great visual effects work, which I mention, because you will literally not be able to know that there are special effect in this film by looking at it, but make no mistake, there is a subtle touch all over this film (and as I've stated, the twin were portrayed by the same actor). One final note about the technical aspects - the film's score by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and his collaborator Atticus Ross is great and perfectly fitting with the tone of this film. The Social Network was full of tension and blistering sharp-witted dialogue. The plot was well constructed with two court depositions being conducted and flash backs taking the audience to see the events as they unfold.

The music was also stellar at setting the mood throughout. The Harvard atmosphere with so many privileged or super intelligent students was foreign to me. I don't know people like this. I could never accomplish something like Facebook. It was fascinating to peek inside this world. There is no easy answer to whether Mark Zuckerberg, played as a barely suppressed smart aleck by Eisenberg, is a good guy or a bad guy.
its a brilliant masterpiece, a true genious movie, loved it.

I really liked this movie I don't know how much of this is actually true seeing as how the guy thats its about had nothing to do with this movie its just what everyone else said not what he said so I guess its only half true in a lot of ways but anyway you look at it as far as movies go I really liked it and I can't stand facebook so thats saying something

i didn't know what to expect with this movie, but it was amazing! the story was very interesting, seeing how Facebook developed. i love Jesse Eisenburg / Mark Zuckerburg. it had kind of a grim reality to it as well as a peculiar sense of humor by the main character who is exceptionally smart and i found him very funny. i don't want to give anything away but you kind of want everything to work out for the main character and his friend Eduardo and in a way it does yet in a way it doesn't. i'd say most definitely watch it.

Thi fim was amazing! It was a great watch. The acting was amazing, all the actors new how to act and they did it at their very best! The film was well shot and well directed. If you have time this film is a good watch! Highly recomended for all!

This movie is just another cover up masking facebook's true story which is nothing more than a way to spy on people and know their every move, those rumors started spreading so this movie was made to cover them up. I don't believe the events of the movie at all to be true, c'mon a couple of street trash boys in harvard made a website that magically attracted millions ? Anyway, the movie itself will entertain you if you're interested in knowing the story behind facebook that everyone's supposed to know. But I personally don't believe that it's a true story.
