Watch Atlas Shrugged: Part I: It was great to be alive, once, but the world was perishing. Factories were shutting down, transportation was grinding to a halt, granaries were empty--and key people who had once kept it running were disappearing all over the country. As the lights winked out and the cities went cold, nothing was left to anyone but misery. No one knew how to stop it, no one understood why it was happening - except one woman, the operating executive of a once mighty transcontinental railroad, who suspects the answer may rest with a remarkable invention and the man who created it - a man who once said he would stop the motor of the world. Everything now depends on finding him and discovering the answer to... |

The script as well as the performances are contrived. Thats what makes it painful to watch. The book is great- the movie...not so much. 2/10

Well run along then. You can have wet dreams while fantasizing over Al Gore and watching An Inconvenient Truth ... or perhaps a choice Michael Moore slander. No accounting for taste, eh, squire?

Three words: Glib. Uninformed. Stupid.

But, of course, Rand was exactly trying to make a political point, thus making yours apropos of nothing.

People who take the time to tell you how awful Atlas Shrugged is are almost certainly politically motivated and desperately want to pan a movie that rubs their statist fur the wrong way. Odds are they have not even seen the movie. Atlas Shrugged is not Academy Award fare, neither is it a poor movie. If you liked the book -- assuming people actually read these days -- then you'll like the movie. If you read Dreams from my Father and liked that, then you'll likely be voting the movie, and my comments, down. Back at you. Solid four and recommendations. John Galt for President.

Excellent story. The casting was terrific except for, as someone had mentioned earlier, Francisco D'Anconia. Many people will argue that Ayn Rand's work got a cheap shot overhaul for a film adaptation and that most of the movie was spent in low cost office spaces that looked like reused sets of Dallas. While this may be true, I believe that, lack of budget be damned, the movie suffered mostly from time restraints for production. Some subplots swept past a little too quickly so had I watched this in a setting where I couldn't rewind and say, "Oh, that's who that was," then I probably wouldn't speak so highly. I will definitely have to read the book over. If movies like "Project X" are more your speed, then stay away. If like me you enjoy the working of both the political and industrial machine, check this movie out.

Did you watch it, or are you just being an ass?

I guess I'll wait for the next two parts to total up an opinion...so far so good though...3/5.

This boring and pointless trash can be enjoyed only by the old fans of Dynasty or Dallas.

3/5 Amazing how things written in the past can mirror things happening today. Of course it happens all the time, but the ideas and story that Rand put into Atlas Shrugged are still around. The movie was okay. I'll be waiting to see part 2!

This was really good; an eye opener and a movie/novel that challenges you to think the direction our government is headed. I can totally understand why it took so long to bring this to the big screen. Can't wait to see part two this weekend.

Don't mistake it has any thing to do with Socialism it don't, this about Nationalism Capitalism V Corporation Capitalism and the greed off what each other wants. My advice is to watch the film, and then read the book the book is 10 times better.

I know that there are 3 parts to the movie series because the book is so long but I wish they could have separated the book into even more movies so the movies would make more sense to those that didn't take the time to read the 1300+ page monster. I loved "Atlas Shrugged" as a book and wish they would have left the setting in the 1950's instead of bringing it up to speed technologically to make the movie easier to explain.

Question: Who is determining the value of work and it's appropriate compensation? Am I to assume that if your services are needed but are less important to some people than to others, they would want to compensate you less than you would like? Tell me how that's fair. If you're not willing to pay the price, as Tony Wilson would say, "You have the freedom to f@$& off at any point."

On a more creative note, granted these people are supposed to be shallow, wooden, douche nozzles, but the plot and the dialogue were so stoic and lifeless. It's a Spanish soap opera with monopolists (which is what Rearden is).

Interesting how no one mentioned the compensation those railroad workers were getting, other than saying they don't have a "flat wage" and everyone is compensated based on contribution. In essence, f*&^ the laborer is the main ethos here. And f$^# John Galt.

Part 2 is a little more exciting than part 1. Part 3 is not scheduled to be released until 2014

You feel you comment was so important that you had to post it 3 times? If every one listened to critics, no one would ever see anything. I think people that rely on critics, simply can't think for themselves. You can listen to them, but I sure wouldn't rely on them, they only give an opinion, and it's usually no better or accurate than anyone else that has an opinion. Part of deciding what to watch, is leaning to think for yourself!

I disagree with almost everything Rand ever wrote. However smart she may have been, her solutions were ridiculous.

i hear the second one is way better

why is the second part still not up yet?

Not sure if this movie strayed far from the book. It's low budget production is prominent but at least the story stayed relevant, to a point. Recommended for political mindsets, not for the impatient. Enjoy!!!

Crony capitalism is wrong but collectivist socialism is evil. And people who do not produce do not deserve to eat or survive.
| Posted by Zaphod4 |
|
Collectivist tools who live off of welfare are the only people knocking this movie. The government does not make anything, they take from the makers and hand it out to losers who don't deserve anything. I'm sure you can relate..

Nikola Tesla. And your right on that one. One of the all time screw jobs of the 20th century was done to that man.

The Greatest book ever!! Don't know if I even want to watch this, to keep from ruining the book.

excellent film!!! excellent cast and direction. Ayn's writing is superb. 10/10!!!! To blindly trust government is to automatically vest it with excessive power. To distrust government is simply to trust humanity - to trust in the ability of average people to peacefully, productively coexist without some official policing their every move. The State is merely another human institution - less creative than Microsoft, less reliable than Federal Express, less responsible than the average farmer husbanding his land, and less prudent than the average citizen spending his own paycheck.
