This movie was pretty good. But, as a science fiction fanatic, one can always expect more. It seems that humanoid/insect aliens is getting a little beat up in the movie business. But, I guess that is what gets under peoples skins. The special effects, story-line, and setting in the movie was excellent. It has been long over due to mix the old west and alien invasion(a more modern ancient alien concept).

A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys are all that stand in their way.

I'll admit it, I am a huge scifi and western nut, and when I discovered that this was coming out, my expectations from a collaboration between scifi and western were pretty big. Instead, I got a typical summer action movie, complete with big explosions. The film is on the borderline, below being where it could have been a great film, and above being horrible. The last James Bond movie that Daniel Craig did really soured me towards his acting, but he is very believable as a cowboy along with all the cast. However, the sheer thought of how great this film could have been, had not the story had been so held back by all the action spectacle, makes the mind boggle.

As a western, this movie only served to perpetuate all the worst parts of westerns - offensive indian stereotypes (really, a tracker? and a mindless, spineless thug?), crappy sets, shitty costumes (what was olivia wilde wearing?) and shallow acting. As a sci-fi movie it did much the same, with cheap looking props (omg the bracelet!) and a lack of coherent plot. The lack of pace and direction make this film almost completely unwatchable. It was nice to see Clancy Brown acting again, and Harrison Ford was awesome (though his character's abrasive attitudes toward indians suffered from a complete lack of context), but Olivia Wilde proved to be a major disappointed, as did the actor from Twilight. Good luck sitting through this rather boring rehashing of all the worst westerns and sci-fi fics in existence.

Atleast the film didn't start off slow and dreary and it had a little different plot from the typical alien movies.

I can't lie I actually liked the slap that alien gave the chick in the movie I was laughing my hip off. I can't believe this dog out live so much of them.

All in all the movie isn't too bad I actually like watching this film.

I really enjoyed the movie first and foremost. I believe it had strong action, an original script, great casting, and i may be particular to olivia wilde but can you really blame me, she adds beauty and grace to this western scifi.
So enough with the overview down to brass tacks. Guy wakes up with a form of amnesia, alone in the desert, wearing a metal object on his arm. Next up, violence some action and a good guy/bad guy/unsure (bad or good) guy scene. This was probably my favorite part of the movie (besides miss Wilde), it still leaves the main character under question but allows him to have some what of a good guy mentality. Next we have aliens, bandits, hold ups, more aliens, and a good background flash back. Then we see in the end the big surprises and plot twists which i think gives this movie a
strong 4/5 rating

i watched the putlocker version and it was not dark and it was definitely in sync.

To put it short: Iron Man in the Far West. That must have been the pitch line from the same producer of the Marvel Franchise, bar most parts of the suit, Robert Downey Jr and the flying of course. Storywise, it gets along but by the end it turns quite childlish and predictable. Bad guys who get hubby dubby, enemies who turn brothers in one second or may be after a few, aliens who line up for the shooting gallery(jezz you would think that they build ships and when someone is firing a plasma weapon, they all line up the narrow hallway and keep coming) My favorite is the 5 minute death scene on the battle field in the middle of an uneven fight with so called visicious aliens coming from everywhere.On the whole the movie does suffer the same symptoms as M .Night's "Signs" but it is forgivable because we all know this was a quick paycheck for Jon Favereau and surely Harrison Ford who really sulks at being a heartless baddie. Olivia Wilde tried her best to impress but the part given to her looked ambiguosly out of place with confusing agendas.Wish only she was the simple town gal who fell for the newly arisen hero. That would have made sense.

How do you renew one western movie? Through the decades the genre has been the subject of constant shape experiments, ranging from wacky comedies ("The Blazing Saddles" and "City Slickers") to horror films ("From Dusk Till Dawn") and an unexpected romance ("Brokeback Mountain").
But few filmmakers have taken their concept as far as the "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau. The new "Cowboys and Aliens" are cowboys, bar girls and bandits against malicious visitors from outer space.
The film takes off in a classic western aesthetics, with a camera ride through dry prairie, where a gunman (Daniel Craig) wakes up with no memory. Around his arm he has a mysterious metal bracelet. In the small town of Absolution, he learns slowly more and more about his past, while foreign vessels are threatening its inhabitants.
And at first, the film works very well. Favreau manages western heritage well, here's a grim tone, reminiscent of classic '50s western. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford are perfect in their roles and gives weight to the movie just by taking the material seriously. The dramatic landscape helps to create an epic adventure.
Sorry is not science fiction elements to be as good. Favreau is investing in sticky effects and expensive toys instead of creating an alien threat that feels scary for real. Towards the end, when Daniel Craig running around in tight leather clothing and shoot off the tentacles of slimy space monsters have transformed the film to 99 percent silly boy's room invention and one per cent meaningful movie experience.

This film was a refreshing take on the numerous alien invasion movies that have been released in the past few years. Instead of seeing mass armys with high-tech gear fighting back againts the invaders, we see a limited force taking on a super one. The cinematography is brilliant, it's not over the top like most generic sci-fi alien films. The story and character development are the main focus. Left some un-answered questions but overall a great movie with a unique concept.
