It is too bad that letmewatchthis does not have the 1984 George C. Scott version. I loved the one with George C. Scott. The Scrooge that George C. Scott portrayed is extremely cynical. He also has an extreme lack of empathy. He knows exactly how he comes across to people and that he hurts people, and he does not give a damn. The other Christmas Carols that I have seen portrayed Scrooge as a (cranky, mean, hateful old man), who does not realize how he comes across to people and how he hurts people. His eyes were opened by the Spirits and he realized for the first time how mean and cranky he had become. In the George C. Scott version, Scrooge’s eyes are already opened as to what an asshole he is before he ever encounters the Spirits. The reason why I like the George C. Scott version so much is because Scrooge’s reclamation was so much more profound than the other versions. To bring someone back to humanity who does not know he is lost, is wonderful, but to bring someone back who knows he’s lost and does not care, is so much, much more wonderful.
