Palindromes: A fable of innocence: thirteen-year-old Aviva Victor wants to be a 'mom'. She does all she can to make this happen, and comes very close to succeeding, but in the end her plan is thwarted by her sensible parents. So she runs away, still determined to get pregnant one way or another, but instead finds herself lost in another world, a less sensible one, perhaps, but one pregnant itself with all sorts of strange possibility. She takes a road trip from the suburbs of New Jersey, through Ohio to the plains of Kansas and back. Like so many trips, this one is round-trip, and it's hard to say in the end if she can ever be quite the same again, or if she can ever be anything but the same again. |

so yeah, this movie is fuckin weird and it makes almost no sense. To be honest it's not that good either, overall i'll give it a 4/10 it's long, and tells a fairly simple story. The writing is amazing i can say that, but the acting was less than decent at most points, and because of that, the lack of drama, and poor conveying of emotion and thought, this movie ends up being more like a stereotypical indie arts students film where the director has a false sense that he's more intelligent and cultured than the audience viewing it than a serious movie trying to convey a message. even with that it's still worth a 1 time watch if you got the attention span for it.

Todd Solondz's second best film (after Happiness). Really different: the same character is played by different actresses during the movie. Disturbing, yet uncomfortably hilarious at times.

3.4/5 Wierdsterpiece. I believe this is what they call an artsy film. I wasn't sure who was who until about the 3rd or 4th incarnation. I can't say it was bad. The cast was top notch in a away just as weird as this movie. You know most of the actors's faces even if you can't remember all the names. Had a very strong antiabortion message. If your in the mood for a off the wall film, watch it. It was very entertain and they don't come much strainger, but can't say I didn't enjoy it. Thank you very much for sharing.

I'm shocked that people are calling this a masterpiece. It seems that the filmmaker has something to say but exactly what that is in unclear. The constant changing on the main character is done for what reason? I don't see how that adds to the film, if anything it takes away. 2/5 for have more shock value than substance.

This movie completely turned my world upside down and inside out. Its a masterpiece. In fact I really wish I could go back and watch it for a first time again. And that freaking doctor Dan I swear to good that man doesn't turn down a part. This was actually his funniest entrance I have seen (yet). My favorite Solondz film On top of storytelling. I think everyone interested in film should see this movie so check it out.

This was really wierd. It was really entertaining, and the acting was fine. I got kind of confused, especially at the ending, but this is definetly worth seeing.

This was certainly a different film from any I've seen before. I did find it rather confusing at first and I guess if there was a greater message it was lost on me.Thought-provoking but it takes some staying power to watch to the end. I guess you gotta be in the mood to analyze to enjoy this film. Personally, I prefer not to have to think too much while I'm being entertained. 8/10

This is one of those rare films that may never get the kind of recognition it deserves. Although not really a movie I would run out and watch in a theater, I truly fell in love with this masterpiece. I had to look up the name of this movie, in the dictionary, because I had no idea what "Palindromes" stood for. I will not give it away because they address it in the script. The cast was just sensational, a mixture of old pro's and new com-mers, they all had their own personal moments to shine. Speaking of shine, the middle part of this feature really gets creative, when our leading character, lol, (inside joke), is found in the woods by a charming young man and is taken to the house of Mother and Father Sunshine. Innovative, Dare-ing, Bold and intense , this is a nice change of pace for movie watchers, of course we all have got to watch brilliance like this with an open mind, and bring a little SUNSHINE into our lives. Thumbs up to the stratosphere!!!!!!

An absolutely amazing film. The theme of how your name can influence who you become is so unique and moving. Takes a while to get into and understand whats happening but its incredible. I love this film very much.

Utter brilliance. After viewing the previous Happiness and Storytelling, I became hooked on Solondz' work and I think Palindromes is definitely in the lead so far. Todd Solondz manages to pull me in with little to no effort because of his dark writing that fixates on the gloomier side of American sub-urban life. It's bitter, surreal and maintains cleverly executed humour. The integration, personally works a charm and I guess you need to approach this movie with an open-mind and acknowledge that this isn't shock horror but more of a realization on what really occurs in the world. On a related note, the people on here who are saying it is anti-abortion propaganda is complete bullshit. Solondz said himself in an interview that he has great admiration for abortionists in this age because they are continuously threatened with violence and are even murdered from pro-life rioters. This movie, in that sense, is probably highlighting that subject. 9.5/10, it's in my top 10 movies. Fans of this should see Happiness.

Terrible movie!! Not funny, not absurd, not black. Using different actors for one role is nice, but feels very cheap when you get the feeling it is done to reach a bigger audience. Why not use a asian, indian, polish, mexican girl as well? Actually, this movie is a waste of time. It doesn't seem to want to make a point out of anything. After 100 minutes you ask yourself why it was made and why you have waisted 100 minutes of your life. Acting in general is okay, except for the black girls who just can't act. Want to see a better movie? I recommend Fat Girl, although it isn't a comedy. It has darker humor and is more controversial.

If you give this movie a chance I am pretty sure you will like it... If you hate anything that looks low budget then dont bother. If you hate anything that has a jumbled up story line then dont bother. If you how ever like a poetic view on life then this is for you. Beware of the pedo factor tho
