This is a movie I saw in Germany in '77 or '78. I thought it was a good movie. William Devane is excellent in his role as well as Tommy Lee Jones. Devane loses his hand, but gets revenge on the bad guys. I give it 4/5. Thanks for this movie.

A sort of kindred spirit to Taxi Driver, Rolling Thunder nevertheless fell through the cracks in 1977, and continues to wallow in obscurity. The weak spot in this revenge flick is, ironically, William Devane, whose PTSD has rendered him a chunk of wood, a ghost of war, and is thus emotionally unreachable. Compared to the unstable Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle, veteran Charles Rane is not very interesting. Still, RT is built around a solid script and deserves recognition.
