I've seen the new version with Johnny Dep yesterday, and that was better then this one. Alot better! Chocolateland was like some kind of kindergarten in this movie, in that other one with J. Depp it was like paradise. And that's one of the many examples. So I find it kinda weird that almost everybody here is sayin' the new version is nothing compared with this one. I know that it's a matter of taste, but come on.. only the Oempa Loempa's were better then in the new version. But you guys are right, this one is a classic and I loved every second of it.

This is the best version, simply because it stayed truer to the book than the remake. It also just has the seem feel that the book had.

This is one of my favorite movies. it has a magic to it that few movies achieve. plus this one is closer to the book than the Johnney Depp one. wonka isn't that innocent of a person in this one he will get angry and frusturated, but that makes him a more 3 dimensional charecter. see this movie, you won't regret it...

you cannot beat this movie, its a classic! It has a better story than charlie and the chocolate factory, also a better ending gene wilder just plays a better willy wonka than "johnny depp" although he is an amazing actor in my opinion he just doesn't fit the part very well!

Amazing performance by Gene Wilder I remember an interview where he saw the script and wanted to make the character more mysterious and dark.I think that was what really made the movie.

If they used Gene Wilder in the new version I think it would've been great, this is still my favorite one. And it was mostly due to the fact that the way it was done was interesting compared to how they do things now, I mean back then they didn't have computer generated graphics, but I'm telling you what, if they did I'm sure this one would have never been remade. The classics are still the best in my opinion. I feel why mess with somethings that's already good. Find something else to remake, but leave ones like this alone.
