Watch Far and Away: A young man (Cruise) leaves Ireland with his landlord's daughter (Kidman) after some trouble with her father, and they dream of owning land at the big giveaway in Oklahoma ca. 1893. When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer, and rides in glory until he is beaten, then his employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter, and try to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman's parents find out where she has gone and have come to America to find her and take her back. |

i love it! i love it! i just love stories about characters who struggle because of this great ambition they have. Joseph and Shannon are such strong and interesting characters brought to life amazingly by Tom and Nicole. The sexual tension was just intense and the chemistry was powerful! No wonder they were the power couple back then :D i love anything historical, so this will have points for that and it was so well done. this thing is classic! 10/10

Excellent movie. Incredibly well cast, and acted. The story was amazing. It was engaging, romantic, and original. I absolutely loved it. A must see.

I remember watching this movie during my childhood:L I love the soundtrack it felt a lot like Braveheart's soundtrack of which I also love! It is also quite hilarious but I'm not sure it's meant to be or not:L 6.6/10 Either I think it's funny in some parts:) Ron Howard seems to be a very hit and miss type of guy in my opinion. Some of his movies are fantastic and other are a load of crap:/ This happens to be one of his good ones:D It has good fight scenes, a good story, well acted and a little bit funny. Where can it go wrong? I would say women would enjoy it aswell as it has a nice love story and it aint cheesy like most others.

A wonderful period piece about Irish immigration to America during the 1890s. Beautiful cinematography. Endearing and genuine love story. A perfect example of manifest destiny. My ancestors emigrated from Ireland around the time in which this film is set and I often wish that I knew more about their experiences and hardships. This film gives us a sense of what it may have been like. All around lovely film!

I had watched this movie when it first came out and every couple of years I am lucky to see it again. Just watched it and still think it is by far one of Cruise's best works. He was great, as was Nicole; they were a wonderful colaboration back in the day. This movie is visually magnificent, starting with the perfection of the various shoot locations right thru the period clothing, housing, clubs, wagons, and all other accessories which seem to be built to the exacting specifications of the 1800s. And the story is so well written, touching, heart-warming, angering, with a few hold your breath scenes thrown in along the way. If you like this type of movie, I belive you will love this one, and even if you are not into historical romantic drama I still believe you will enjoy this. Give it a try if you so desire. I give it a 10/10.
