This was a little different take on the classical Alice in Wonderland that we all liked and I love the actors, Johnny Depp, Anna Hathaway who I had no idea until I saw her that she was actually in this movie and even the Queen with her awesome head was awesome in this movie.

Who wouldn’t want to fall down the rabbit hole if it holds the promise of endless possibilities and boundless dreams?

Tim Burton’s adaptation of the beloved story only hints at the curious temptation with some 3-D helpings.

Let purists be warned: This is not a faithful big screen translation of Lewis Caroll’s classic books “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.”

Burton's "Alice" jumps 13 years later when our heroine is already 19 years old. While she has lost some of her “much-ness”—as the Mad Hatter later on described her—Alice (played by Australian actress Mia Wasikowska) still has her childhood spunk, her penchant for the extraordinary, and her excessive dislike to be told what to do (say, marry a redhead royal prig just because her family insists).

Beloved characters in the books were brought to life to join the crazy tea party: the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), Dormouse (Barbara Windsor), the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry), Caterpillar (Alan Rickman), Tweedleedee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas), and the March Hare (Paul Whitehouse).

The royalties are also present, such as the Knave of Hearts (Crispin Glover), the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), and of course, the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), although popular character Humpty Dumpty is missing in action—perhaps he fell off a wall?

Screenwriter Linda Woolverton (“Beauty and the Beast”) made one cohesive story about the triumph of good vs. evil and where interaction among the characters was evident, unlike in the book where it seemed they were all just colorful cut-outs meant to fill Alice's world. In the film, the characters are finally allowed to develop.

In Burton's version, Alice is seen returning to "Underland" (which she used to call “Wonderland”) to find it barren and almost hopeless. She reunites with her long-time friends who tell her she needs to fulfill her destiny of slaying the Red Queen’s “pet,” the Jabberwocky, on Frabjous Day, so the White Queen will regain her crown.

Burton’s 108-minute film is a visual feast all throughout, made so sumptuous with his trademark dreamy, melancholic imagery.

Production design is so consistent that there is not a wasted space in a single frame. Take for instance the castle of the Red Queen: everything from the execution stage to the Knave’s eye patch are all heart-shaped. Tim’s eye for detail goes a long way in successfully transporting the audience to a different world.

Even the costumes, hair, and make-up are striking in an edgy yet sophisticated way, from the Red Queen’s bulbous head times three and Mad Hatter’s zesty orange hair, to Alice’s it’s-not-obvious-it’s-made-out-of-curtains-and-rags dress. Cheers to costume designer Colleen Atwood.

Tim reunites once again with his perennial teammates Johnny Depp and partner in real life Helena Bonham Carter for this one.

Johnny is, as usual, very amusing. As the Mad Hatter, who he has seemingly given more "heart," he’s not just some nutty entertainer who seldom asks, “Why is a raven like a writing desk?”

But it is really Helena who stands out: she’s the Red Queen incarnate, a bratty royalty whose shrill voice will get in one’s nerves that one would almost want to scream, “off with her head!”

Mia, meanwhile, has both the spunk and the innocence of Alice that her own portrayal of the character will grow on you. She is at her empowering best during her duel with the Jabberwocky.

The film has its merits, though loyal followers of the books will probably wonder how the film would have turned out if only Tim opted to re-tell the story faithfully. (And with the movie’s rich visuals, witty, comic dialogues, and powerhouse cast, it is an experience in itself even sans 3-D.)

In spite of the drastic differences, and the strange fact that Alice has (initially) forgotten a place as wonderful as Wonderland, the film still carries the same message that the books had stamped in the hearts of kids and adults since their publication in the late 1800’s: people may grow older, but they should not lose their sense of wonder. "Be curiouser and curiouser."

And it doesn’t matter what’s real or what’s imaginary (“which dreamed it,” anyway?); what’s important is, whether you are in the real or in the imagined world, you never lose your sense of self.

Tim Burton never fails when putting together his film works usually, but on this occasion slightly falls short. CGI effects are priority here but the story is missing slightly. Story is more important. We have to remember this is supposed to be a weird twisty trippy story that was first created in 1903 and is a huge classic but doesnt come across like the way it should compared to the original story.

You have to make sure you recreate these massive classics so well....im so surprised at Tim Burton. I see his need to recreate this film and add his own slant to it, but to be given such a massive privilege to touch a piece of film work like this it needed to be so right but it turned out to be a hugely marketed movie with the main ingredients missing story-wise. That just cant happen. Concentration on selling this movie was paramount for them and the story...well, slightly forgotten.

Alice should have been a different girl from the start of the film compared to the end of the film, she goes through too much to be the same after all that, her character needed to twist a bit more for sure, but i have to say Bonham-Carter as the Queen was seriously good....from the make-up to the acting in itself she did an amazing job for sure But its not enough for some, you cant rely on effects and make-up to make a film work, some will go for eye-popping stuff but not depth. each to their own. Just remember this is coming from someone who has a pre-existing bias for Tim Burton. I dont want people to think this isnt an enjoyable experience because it is. I was hoping for something special but it didnt hit the spot 100%.

In my opinion the Jaberwocky has something wrong with it...a fantastically crafted CGI monster for sure but it sounded in the vocal department.....just sounded totally wrong...maybe giving it some cough sweets might have worked...overall its a good watch for the masses and gets a fairly positive 6.9/10...the kids will love it though.

Overall, I found «Alice in Wonderland» to be very entertaining. I feared that the movie would lose some of it's magic as the main character entered to Wonderland, but fortunately it never did. I enjoyed the movie from the very start to its very end. It's a cute fantasy/adventure movie. But beware; there are some frightening creatures that may scare the youngest in the audience, so the PG rating is suitable.

One of the films biggest advantages is it visuals. With it lush and dark landscapes, cute animals and colorful costumes, the flick is beautifully to look at and I can't wait to enjoy the sharpness of the picture on Blu Ray. The score of Danny Elfman is effective and gives the movie a dreamy, atmospheric tone. The characters are mostly passable. They don't steal the show entirely, but neither do they appear as distractive or annoying.

WOW!!! 13 years have passed since Alice first visited Wonderland. She was just a little girl back then. A little girl plagued by a nightmare. Now,19 , Alice finds herself thrust headfirst into adulthood yet continues to have the same dream for as long as she can remember AND on the verge of bieng thrown into amarriage shes not sure of..The White Rabbit eventually distracts her back down the rabbit hole and return to visit Wonderland, but Alice is still under the impression that it's all a dream and has no recollection of her first trip there. Since Alice's first visit, however, the Red Queen used the Jabberwocky to relinquish the crown from her sister, the White Queen, and now reigns supreme as the queen of Wonderland. As the creatures of Wonderland debate whether this Alice is the "right Alice" that is destined to kill the Jabberwocky and end the Red Queen's reign, Alice struggles with trying to wake up from this very realistic dream.Its totally amazing!!!! The graphics and scenes and the lure to the Imagination ahhhhhhhhhh I tell if you seek adventure, action and fantasy then THIS is a movie for you and the WHOLE FAMILY to watch...5/5 Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast deserve and applause......

As a huge Tim Burton fan I believed the man could do no wrong. When I first saw the movie, I couldn't help feel dissappointed. A lot of green screen effects are used, something which I felt differed Tim Burton to other directors. I always liked the quirky, real sets used in his movies. Unfortunately, the whole movie left me feeling underwhelmed.

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter improved my overall thoughts on the movie. Both are excellent and Helena is one of them women that can win an oscar for reading a phone book. Her performance, along with Depp's were the most memorable.

It is rare I watch a Tim Burton movie and don't enjoy it, but this has got to be that one exception. Some parts worked (mostly Helena Bonham Carter's scenes) but the rest waren't so great. Still, if you're a Wonderland or Burton fan, it may be worth giving this movie a watch. Overall, I have mixed thoughts on the movie.

Alice in wonderland (2010) i thought was wonderful, Not only did they wow you with some of the coolest animation ever they stuck to a great original story but twisted it enough so you didn't feel like you watched the same movie twice. Brilliant and Amazing i Gave Alice In Wonderland (2010) 5/5 stars and a future classic...

Alice In Wonderland was a horrible movie and unfortanetly I wasted money seeing this movie in theaters, longest and most boring two hours of my life. Johnny Depp was annoying, horrid and Tim Burtons wife was worse. Lewis Carroll would be mortified by this movie, don't waste your time!

even as someone with a lot of time for his films, and a pre-existing bias, I couldn't really connect with this. The cast acquit themselves well, especially considering the noted difficulty in emoting to a tennis ball on a stick, but all their tics and quirks seem to be masking a void at the centre of what should be a free-floating, evocative trip. Sure, it's weird looking, but we've seen it before, and back then in films like Edward Scissorhands it had a sense of purpose. Now we're left exploring a CGI wonderland that seems to be without a great deal of wonder. The book revels in its bizarre environs, absurd dialogue and whimsical characters. This film grounds them, drains them of that mystery and leaves us with a colourful but forgettable retread. It seems intent on driving us to a narrative conclusion that few people will have had much stake in through its running time, simply because we're not giving much to care for.

With a source material so familiar, even to those whose knowledge is second hand references, there needs to be a degree of innovation (as in Svenkmejer's dark stop-motion version, or the co-opting of Terry Gilliam in to his "Tideland" narrative), or else a studious and inspired adaptation that completely returns to Lewis Carroll. What we end up with is a mid-point that fails to get to grips with what enchants people about the Alice story, and another chance to see a beautiful waif walk around twisted, quasi-Gothic landscapes to a score by Danny Elfman.

Not that this isn't an enjoyable experience in itself, and as seen in the vast Screen 1 at the Empire it is at times breathtakingly pretty. It's just inessential, and while it may be unfair to expect a classic from a favoured filmmaker every time out, when they tackle something with the pedigree and history of Alice In Wonderland you can't help but hope for something special. And that's the problem, that Tim Burton, while he is still making decent films, has been a long way off special for some time now.

6/10 (if they gave half stars it'd be 6.5), but that doesn't mean it's a bad film. It's possible that my grade is affected by high expectations and lost potential. If you have kids, I'm sure it'll be better than 90% of the dross that passes for family films now. At least there is some artistry involved, and while he might not be at his best I'll still always pay to see a Tim Burton film (although I got this one for free...)

The original adaptation of this movie is already confusing. Tim Burton made it more crazy and irritating to say the least. Without Johnny as our main man I would have to say that this movie is high on the disappointment list.
It made me yearn for more and did not deliver. Each time I thought it's going to get better, it just got worst. This is not a version worth having your children see for the first time. Or perhaps it would be better to have your children only know this version as to save them the drama of not feeling fulfilled with a great story, which Alice in wonderland is, just not through the eyes of Mr. Burton.
