I just started this film, as a big fan of Spike Lee's oeuvre I've been waiting for it for a while, but I had to bring up these inconsistencies before I forget them: (Note: I am only at 33 minutes currently) 1) Red Hook Brooklyn (I myself am from NYC and have lived in various part of BK) is quite an expensive neighborhood right now aside from the Red Hook projects that the film depicts, but this gentrification doesn't seems adequately represented in "The Hook" of this film. 2) How does a kid from ATL not know who the bloods are... really? Also, a vegan and no Southern accent at 12 - seems like a strange bit of amateurishness for Spike in regards to detail. I think that for his time passed as a filmmaker, Spike has removed himself from a position of authenticity to make films like this, coming from a hood mentality. Aside from that, Clarke Peters is phenomenal in this removed exploration of faith and poverty and childhood and impossible redemption.

this was a confusing gumbo chunk of mess. The movie could have been a classic had it had some sort of common sense to its direction. Each character was not developed. It skipped all over the place like watching a fly being swung on by different people in the house. There is no excuse for the ragged manner in which this movie was done. Spike ought to know better.

One legitimate actor in the entire movie he tried to carry the whole movie.Low budget movie that took away from the message and possibly greatness of the movie.He should have written a book for this one.I was left disappointed.

I think Spike Lee is a genius. I've watched most if not all his films & this one is by far thee most boring. long & boring! I'm disappointed.

I was left greatly confused, WTF was this shyte effort? Spike has lost it 4/10.

ok, It didn't hold my attention the first time. Didn't finish it. So I just went back and watched all of it. Ok ,once you get used to the bad overacting, you'll find a REAL STORY here. A good one. One I wasn't expecting. Whew, kinda blew me away. I'm giving it a 5/10 because of the acting only. Otherwise it WAS worth the watch. Stick with it.
