From all the hype about this movie i thought it would have been alot better than it was. But, it's an OK film. It had a decent storyline, a good cast and a lot of great twists. I thought the ending would be different but it finished the movie quite well.

Well I enjoyed this.Its the old ghost mystery formula,the big empty country house,a maid and things going bump in the night.Its well acted though to be honest it requires little by way of serious acting.The script is suitably written.All members of the cast hold up their end of the film and make it a good watch.Its slow if there must be an outright criticism of the film....but that is hardly a reason not to watch.

This actually wasn't too bad. I didn't know what to expect when i began watchng this movie. The only thin I got was that it look like a good movie and despite it not being awesome or scary it was a good watch and was pretty interesting. Not bad!

The acting in this film is stellar. The costumes are right on with the 1920s settings. I thought I was in the 1920s watching this film. The scenery was great. The plot was fine with that of a supernatural movie. The haunted school is a great setting with a pond and beautiful scenery all around. The color of the movie is superb. All in All this is a great movie. The best part in my opinion is the ending. You need to watch and listen closely or else you will not understand the ending, thus being confused about the ending. Thats why I am writing this review because a lot of the comments mention that they did not "get" the ending.

A woman, Florence, who does not believe in ghosts nor in God or anything that has to do with the afterlife. She even writes a book about this and as a female, she is a college graduate, which is unusual for a woman in the 1920s. For a living, she uncovers people that use the afterlife as a fraud to make money themselves.

She lost her fiance in the war, therefore she does not believe in anything regarding the afterlife. Then she takes on a job to go to a boarding school, where there is a "ghost" and a child recently died there because of the supposed "ghost". She does not believe, so she goes to see who is the "ghost". Florence believes in science not in superstition.

With all her advanced equipment that she takes to the school. She does uncover that the child that died there recently was not because of the "ghost". As she is getting ready to leave she starts seeing the "ghost", thus making her doubt herself. She frantically tries to find a plausible explanation for what she is seeing.

As it turns out, the boarding school was the home of a healthy family before becoming a school. As the movies moves along towards the end we find out that the "ghost" is in fact a "ghost' and her half-brother, Tom. Her father killed her mother, her half brother, Tom (the ghost) and himself. Her father also tried to kill her but he failed in doing so. A great twist!

Florence pushed the memories out of her mind since she was a child. She does not remember any of this until she goes to the boarding school and starts to remember. Tom wants to be with his sister again in death and be a family again. Tom is a child though. His mother, Maud, was the maid and she is still alive working at the boarding school and she can see Tom, so can Florence. Florence now believes in ghosts.

At the end, is where the film gets tricky. Tom's mother wanting to please him poisons herself and Florence with drink in the kitchen. So they can be a family again. Florence tells Robert (a teacher there that she had sex with) as she is dying that she needs medicine for her to vomit the poison. Robert goes to look for the medicine. In the meantime, Tom's mother dies because of the poison. Florence is talking to Tom and begging him to let her live because her soul would not be in peace. She tells him that he will always be with her. Both Tom and Florence are crying. If you watch closely you will see that Tom gets the bottle of medicine that makes Florence vomit the poison. Florence does indeed vomit the poison and then she goes to sleep with Tom in her arms. When Roberts walks back to the kitchen Florence is on the floor by herself.

Next scene Florence is getting ready to leave the school and the students are coming back from their 3 day vacation. Florence is Alive. She does not die. A lot of people are confused with the ending.

At the end, the headmaster is telling another teacher that Maud will be missed and that they will tell people that her death was an accident. He never mentions Florence, because she is still alive. Florence also goes outside and the children are saying "Hi" to her and she is talking to them. Also, Florence and Robert talk and Florence smokes a cigarette. (Ghosts do not smoke) Florence tells Robert that she does not see Tom anymore She also tells Robert that she is going to write another book on ghosts, She is a believer now. The movie ends with Florence taking a walk and telling Robert to meet her on the other side of the driveway. Robert goes to the car where they will both be leaving the school together.

The acting was superb. The costumes were great! I thought I was in the 1920s. The music was eerie, fit for a supernatural film. The setting was great a big old boarding school. The color of the film was that of the era the movie was suppose to be, the 1920s. Best of all I Loved the ending. I give this film 5/5 Stars.

One thing about the ending that a lot of people are confused about. You have to watch closely. Florence does not die at the end of the movie, she lives. Tom gives her the medicine to vomit the poison, which she does. Florence vomits the poison and lives. At the end of the movie, the headmaster of the school tells a fellow teacher that the death of Maud will be said was an accident. He does not mention any other deaths. Also, we see Florence smoking a cigarette with Robert (ghosts don't usually smoke). The children are saying "Hi" to her.

Florence also tells Robert that she is going to write another book regarding the interpretation of ghosts. We also see Florence telling Robert that if he could please tell the car to pick her up at the other side of the driveway because she wants to walk. Florence and Robert end up leaving the school together. Hope this helps clarify things for you.
