When choosing which mutant hero they would use to launch the X-MEN feature-film prequel series ORIGINS, the creators of the hugely successful franchise had a no-brainer of a decision in going with Wolverine. Not only is he the most well-known and popular X-Men character, but Wolverine--as brought expertly to life in true leading-man fashion by Hugh Jackman--was essentially the star of the three previous X-MEN movies. As the title implies, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE is the back story of the fiery and conflicted Wolverine (né James Logan), whose mutant powers include killer claws that shoot from his knuckles and a regenerative ability that allows him to live seemingly forever. Taking a few mild liberties but staying relatively faithful to the comic-book source material, ORIGINS follows Logan from his first recognition of his mutant powers as a young child up through his infamous adamantium rebirth and the total memory loss that would subsequently fuel his angry quest. Wolverine’s story has enough intriguing details to allow for a grown-up psychodrama in the mold of THE DARK KNIGHT, and the actors on hand--including Danny Huston as Stryker and Liev Schreiber as Logan’s half-brother, Victor (aka Sabretooth)--have the chops to deliver. Director Gavin Hood, however, opts in favor of cinematic razzle-dazzle heavy on John Woo-style action-ballet and CGI glitz. From Deadpool’s eye-popping swordplay (the action-adventure equivalent of Riverdance) to the tightrope-walk of a fight scene in the film’s finale, WOLVERINE is a blockbuster action film in the most fundamental sense of the word. While some might complain that the film lacks the storytelling substance of the first two X-MEN films, if it’s bang you’re after, then this certainly isn’t a waste of your bucks.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a pretty enjoyable action film. It's what you could safely call big, dumb entertainment - and I mean that in the best possible way.

A prequel to the enormously successful X-Men trilogy, this film focuses on Wolverine, the wild-haired savage with superhuman self-healing abilities, a nasty set of retractable claws and a murky past. The film's really a series of adrenalin-pumping action scenes - the usual mix of explosions, chases and fights - held together by a poor excuse for a plot.

In 1845 Canada, young Jimmy and his brother Victor discover they are mutants; the film's opening credits then proceed to play over a montage of the siblings fighting in a series of important wars. This helps establish the back-story of both men, and also the origin of the conflict between the siblings.

On tracking him again years later, we discover Jimmy has become Logan now (played by Hugh Jackman), he's turned his back on his military past and he's opted for a quiet life as a lumberjack with a pretty schoolteacher for company. When Victor (played by Liev Shreiber) tracks him down and kills his lover, Logan swears revenge and submits to having his skeleton bonded with indestructible adamantium by his former boss, Major Stryker (played by Danny Huston). While on a mission to hunt down his bloodthirsty brother, Logan uncovers a larger, sinister plot to wipe out all mutants.

At less than two hours in running time, this film is light on its feet and packs in enough by way of exciting, jaw-dropping set pieces including a chase involving a vintage motorbike and a swooping helicopter, and the climatic duel between the sparring siblings and another powerful mutant on Three-Mile Island.

Judged as a companion piece to the earlier trilogy, X-Men Origins: Wolverine falls substantially short. Those films - particularly the first two - had emotional depth and layered characters, but in comparison this one is just a spectacle with overblown special effects. Not that there's anything wrong with that. As a stand-alone film, Wolverine is engaging because so much is going on all at once, and because Hugh Jackman has that undeniable star quality that makes it hard to take your eyes off him when he's on screen. The one who surprises you this time though, is Leiv Shreiber with his menacing presence and his crooked smile.

Directed by Gavin Hood, the South African filmmaker behind the excellent Oscar-winning film Tsotsi, this movie has a surprisingly uneven tone, but makes no bones about the fact that it's going for the excited child in you. So if you enjoy watching trucks being blown up and grown men stabbing each other with their claws, this film can be pretty good fun.

I'm going with a generous three out of five for X-Men Origins: Wolverine; you can be sure more X-Men spin-offs are on their way.

To the film's credit, its quick movement makes it easy to watch and entertaining and there's some surprisingly good comedic timing on Jackman's part for an action movie. Seriously though, it must have been a blast (no pun intended) on the set during action sequences because they actually destroyed everything they possibly could: CGI, real and both. This film is the beginning of what will surely be mind-blowing visual effects at the movies this summer. Hood gives new visual strength to the franchise and provides a much more epic feel to this film -- it's clearly about this grand journey for Wolverine, even if it's more spectacle than introspective.

Surprisingly, the ending was the most satisfying part of the film. All the subplots converge, it makes sense and the loose ends that fans of the first three films will notice get tied up fittingly at the end. For the whole first hour of the film you're juggling Wolverine and Sabretooth's rivalry, Stryker's team of guys with powers, Wolverine's romance with Kayla out in the wilderness, what's happening to the team of guys with powers ... why the heck kid Cyclops is in the movie ... it's not overwhelming, it's just not as enjoyable when you can't focus on one thing or character as much as you'd like. Still, the ending justifies the strange means, at least in terms of the epic battle that ensues.

I like Wolverine although he was not my favourite X-Men he is indeed the best fighter amongst them.

In this film Wolverine is a mutant who seeks revenge against Victor Creed or Sabertooth as we know him for the death of his girlfriend and ends up going through the mutant Weapon program.

This is so cool!!!!After briefly showing Wolverine (The talented Hugh Jackman) story skips forward to the Vietnam War where he and fellow brother whom he grew up with, Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber) are recruited into a secret government organization with fellow mutants and led by William Stryker (Danny Huston).
Wolverine dislikes Stryker's murderous tactics and leaves the group, retreating to the woods in Canada to live out his life in peace.(must excuse me i get REALLY into this...heheheh) Wolverine, seems to have found love and hapiness with Kayla Silverfox (The sexy and HOT Lynn Collins). Logan's peaceful existence is shattered when Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) he kicks ass YEAHHHH, his vicious brother, brutally murders Kayla. Logan's thirst for REVENGE, propels him into the Weapon X program, where he undergoes a painful procedure to bond his bones with adamantium, making him virtually indestructible and more than a match for Victor. I enjoyed wolverine in comic books ever since i was a little kid and a HUGE fan of Action, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy...i gave this 5 out 5 Very well directed by Gavin Hood

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" finally answers the burning question, left hanging after all three previous "Wolverine" movies, of the origins of Logan, whose knuckles conceal long and wicked blades. He is about 175 years old, he apparently stopped changing when he reached Hugh Jackman's age, and neither he, nor we, find out how he developed such an interesting mutation.

His half-brother was Victor (Liev Schreiber). Their story starts in "1840 -- the Northwest Territories of Canada," a neat trick, since Canada was formed in 1867, and its Northwest Territories in 1870. But you didn't come here for a history lesson. Or maybe you did, if you need to know that Logan and Victor became Americans (still before they could be Canadians) and fought side by side in the Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam. Why they did this, I have no idea. Maybe they just enjoyed themselves.

Booted out of the Army in Vietnam, Logan/Wolverine joined a secret Black Ops unit under Gen. Stryker (Danny Huston), until finally, in Nigeria, he got fed up with atrocities. Nevertheless, he was recruited by Stryker for a super secret plan to create a Mutant of Mutants, who would incorporate all available mutant powers, including those of the kid whose eyes are like laser beams. He wears sunglasses. Lotta good they'll do him.

Am I being disrespectful to this material? You bet. It is Hugh Jackman's misfortune that when they were handing out superheroes, he got Wolverine, who is for my money low on the charisma list. He never says anything witty, insightful or very intelligent; his utterances are limited to the vocalization of primitive forces: anger, hurt, vengeance, love, hate, determination. There isn't a speck of ambiguity. That Wolverine has been voted the No. 1 comic hero of all time must be the result of a stuffed ballot box.

At least, you hope, he has an interesting vulnerability? I'm sure X-Men scholars can tell you what it is, although since he has the gift of instant healing, it's hard to pinpoint. When a man can leap from an exploding truck, cling to an attacking helicopter, slice the rotor blades, ride it to the ground, leap free and walk away (in that ancient cliche where there's a fiery explosion behind him but he doesn't seem to notice it), here's what I think: Why should I care about this guy? He feels no pain and nothing can kill him, so therefore he's essentially a story device for action sequences.

Oh, the film is well-made. Gavin Hood, the director, made the great film "Tsotsi" (2005) and the damned good film "Rendition" (2007) before signing on here. Fat chance "Wolverine" fans will seek out those two. Why does a gifted director make a film none of his earlier admirers would much want to see? That's how you get to be a success in Hollywood. When you make a big box-office hit for mostly fanboys, you've hit the big time. Look at Justin Lin with "Fast & Furious."

Such films are assemblies of events. There is little dialogue, except for the snarling of threats, vows and laments, and the recitation of essential plot points. Nothing here about human nature. No personalities beyond those hauled in via typecasting. No lessons to learn. No joy to be experienced. Just mayhem, noise and pretty pictures. I have been powerfully impressed by film versions of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Iron Man and the Iron Giant. I wouldn't even walk across the street to meet Wolverine.

But wait! -- you say. Doesn't "X-Men Origins" at least provide a learning experience for Logan about the origins of Wolverine? Hollow laugh. Because we know that the modern Wolverine has a form of amnesia, it cannot be a spoiler for me to reveal that at the end of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," he forgets everything that has happened in the film. Lucky man.

Hugh Jackmann plays a major role on this movie that brings us to the beginning of X-Men adventures. The direction and pictures are just the best from all the other X-men movies. Lots of action and lots of answers are answered on this must-see movie that will catch your attention from scene 1.

With a new director, X - Men Origins : Wolverine is a breath of fresh air with stunning effects, brilliant new characters and casting and xameos brilliant. To start the new characters such as, Deadpool, Blob, Gambit and Agent X are brilliantly introduced, a reinvented Sabertooth is brilliantly done as is William Stryker's return. With many a cameos from Emma Frost, Cyclops and of course Proffessor X. The story and twists are brilliant with an amazing final battle and the scene in which Wolverine gains his adamantium is brilliantly executed as is the brilliant new director.
