read the books, at 13, again at 16, before this movies release....still had to pay attention to try following the storyline. nice to see familiar faces, lots of character actors.

in 1984 the effects were amazing!

8/10 - Loved this film. Maybe not true to the books (which are ace also) but this movie is so stylized, great costumes/sets and effects for the day. Remeber being blown away with the worms etc. A great cast and a brillaint soundtrack imo. Loved it

thats right---not the other way around.Dune is based on a series of books by Frank Herbert. This series is regarded to be on the Lord of the rings level...very highly regarded by literary critcs and fans alike.

damn! This is SUCH a bad ass movie, idc wht anyone says...i just watched it again for the hell of it, i forgot how many famous actors are in this and they are so young. if u havent seen this movie for some unknown reason and your into scifi then watch it, youll love it. despite its age, but be prepared you may need to watch it more than once, theres alot of names and vocabulary to know before you an really understand whats going on. 5/5

How the FUCK can anyone in their right mind say DUNE is a bad scifi movie? Normally I try not to say anything about anyones comment, bc to each his own but SERIOUSLY? Your fucking crazy and then to go on and on about how bad this movie sucks? Thats like saying you hate Star Wars or some shit...even if you dont personally enjoy it you dont talk shit about how it sucks as I scifi movie, thats fucking insane. You have to consider when this movie was made as well, dont be a jack ass.

For a film that didn't get good reviews when it first came out, i have got to say this is an amazing Sci-Fi movie with some cool special effects for it's time 10/10.

This particular movie, while very well done, falls flat, the Novel DUNE is just to complex to fit into a 2 hour movies, even the 3 part T.V. Miniseries version falls short. The only way to actually catch the messages in the movie is to actually read the book. well books, there are 3 trilogies and now also a set of prequel novels that give the back story to the Dune universe. The movie here is as good as it can be, it's only failing being the common book to film just not working.

I watched it for the first time last night (in which there's thunder struck three house next door :P the power of Dune!!! *burst open my neighbours' roof and fried my modem too*) and I LOVE it. Just watch it all over again and I love it. Waaa~~~ I kept distracted with how beautiful Kyle is (or the hair, or the nose.. dang) but dang this is so good! The focus on humanity in this movie is priceless. The CGI is quite acceptable for me since there wasnt much of it in as technology isn't the main focus of the story (like Star Wars). I love the worm in this than the new ones. Again, all of them were flawless. But I haven't watch 2000's Dune yet but I've seen Children of Dune. Am totally engrossed with this series. It deserved to be a classic.

best.movie.ever - do not watch the remake!

The Movie series is great if you do no compare to the books/ with the prequel added to the book series- their is no way any director could live up to them.. So you have to separate the books from the movie and enjoy them as separate entities

Based upon a book of the same name written by Frank Herbert this movie is a classic of lt's time,unfortunately they've tried to fit the entire book into a couple of hours,it should have been made as a trilogy,9/10.
