9/10 Solid good watch. Excellent job from all involved. The synopsis is a shallow take on this film, and way off the mark. This is a story of the hypocrisy that parades as power and religion in American culture, and the innocents who pay the price for their deception. Maybe what is wrong is America's current definition of what constitutes a good mother, not (the character of) Virginia's cognitive disorganization. She may be confused, but never about her priority or her love for her son. Clearly he is likewise not at all confused about her love for him and the courage and authenticity that such an honest love inspires. Definitely worth a watch. Connelly gives a subtle and believeable performance in a difficult role.
