This film is a perfect film for all audiences to see, it's heartfelt and powerful. The characters and the actors has such perfect charisma and has such perfect personalities. The story is wonderfully perfect it's all about love, family, choice, and so much more. This film has touched many hearts please see it and you wlll feel love.

OMG i knew it, Disappointing movie, though Zac efron acted really well but still the movie was extremely dull, it had some emotional or sad scenes but this movie never touched me. Overall, I feel as though this movie was mishandled. In the hands of either a more sensitive director and/or cast, this could have been very touching coming of age film. Sadly, it's far from it. One redeeming quality is that the scenery is beautiful. The lush forest and ocean water surrounding the cemetery and town are magnificent. If you really want to see this movie, I'd say wait. Wait to rent or see it at the dollar theater or until you just totally forget about it. There is a poorly done twist here that, if this alone was done right, could have made this movie recommendable. It needed to be a bit darker, and not to knock Efron, but they needed a different style of actor to make this work. It would be good to see one day on TV, but don't waste your popcorn money on it. "Charlie St. Cloud" has a lot of heart...but, the supernatural plot-line or whatever really throws everything off because....welll...it makes no damn sense. After the movie your left wondering a few things about how this character has this ability..... It was just weird. I rated this 2.5 because I'm not actually too sure how I feel about the movie. I liked everything....but the fact that nothing was really explained. That killed it. The scenery is beatiful and the acting isn't really that bad, either. Zac Efron has improved since his Disney Channel break-out film, "High School Musical".

The plot of Charlie St. Cloud is not easily appreciated. It is about two brothers, one 11 and the other 18. They like each other, but neither can say it easily. The older, Charlie, has been asked by his mother to baby sit the younger. Charlie decides that he really deserves a night out away from Sam and tries to leave. Sam stops him and insists on being dropped off at a friend's place. On the way, there is a terrible accident, taking Sam's life; Charlie died, but later was revived.

For five years, Charlie lives a life in which each day has only one high light: at sunset, he goes to meet Sam in a secluded place near the graveyard where Sam is buried and where Charlie works. They talk. They play catch. Sam seems to need Charlie and Charlie feels obligated to fill that need. Sam has not aged since the day he died.

Then one day, Charlie notices Tess (Amanda Crew). She is furious: the plants around her father's grave looks like something designed by Tim Burton for a Batman sequel. She would like someone to do something about it. Charlie is really taken by her.

It turns out they have a common interest – sailing. That basically is the plot.

Charlie's dilemma becomes apparent: he must continue his life as it is or reach out and grasp what presents itself to him.

It is an engaging film with plenty of interesting subplots. Most of all it has good performances in it and music (except for the ending credits and the last scene) does not compete with the dialogue.

I have to say that reading some reviews of Charlie St. Cloud can be a very depressing experience. It makes me wonder if I saw a different film in a theatre that I'd walked into by mistake. Alternatively, maybe the other reviewers did.

Few, for example, praised Amanda Crew, who was astonishing, and even more surprising, this was her film appearance. Check it out. She has no other credits in IMDb's database. Not even a bit part in something. But see edit below.

She has just the right kind of face and figure for the part -- athletic, intelligent, sweet and present. I thought Zac Efron slept walked through his part, or maybe even just slept through it, but Amanda Crew did not.

Every moment she was on screen, even when she didn't have much to do (as in when she walks up behind Charlie and Sam becomes enraged at her presence), she conveys exactly what she says. She does not mean to spy on Charlie. She wants to comfort him, to find out about him.

Slowly she thaws Zac Efron. She had long before he even looked seriously at her.

At this point that you should see the film for yourself. I have done no more than give the barest outline of what is important, and that is finding out that life is more than practising virtue. It is more than hiding or even using one's skills and talents. It is more than breathing in and out. It is about first chances and if we are lucky, about second chances. It is about how well we live what we are given without fear or design. Most of all it is about the intense love that some of us experience without even knowing we are in love.

Edit ==== 1. After watching a Zac Efron interview, I decided that he was doing what he was told. But underacting love is not enticing to an audience. It worked in his relationship with Sam; it does not work with Tess.

2. Amanda Crew's filmography can be found by googling her. I stand by my original view: she carried the film anytime she was on screen. I hope to see more of her.

When I first heard that Efron was playing a role of a complex character I was a little apprehensive of the outcome. Not that I am doubting any talent Efron has, but after years of portraying a teenage high school sweetheart who danced, sang and flirted it's a little heard to take him seriously. Thankfully, he grasped the role tightly and played it to perfection.
The plot itself is a little predictable at times, not leaving much to the imagination, but I didn't find this faulted the film in any way.
Even though you could class this as a family film, you cannot help but sense the darkness that's intertwined in the film, leaving a very mature mark on the picture itself.
I have only one fault to discuss - even though the basis of the film is far fetched, it was portrayed and shown in a way which was touching and believable, but on occasion it became a little to far fetched, giving the film a cheesy feel which it certainly didn't need.

So much so that he takes a job as caretaker of the cemetery in which his brother is buried. Charlie has a special lasting bond with his brother though, as he can see him. Charlie meets up with his brother (Sam) each night to play catch and talk. Then, a girl comes into Charlie's life and he must choose between keeping a promise he made to Sam, or going after the girl he loves. definitely a heart breaking story of love and brotherhood definitely worth more than a watch

This film is all about true brotherly love. Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Effron) and his little brother, Sam (Charlie Tahan), do everything together from sailing to getting Sam prepped up for the baseball season. Charlie has graduated and wants to attend his last high school party with his friends before he leaves to the Univerisity. Unfortunately, he has to babysit Sam while their mother, (Kim Basinger sitll beautifull after all these years), works a double at the hospital. When he snuk out, he is busted by Sam and now he has to bring him along to drop him off at a nearby friend’s house. While on the way, a semi-truck crashes into them causing terrible wreckage. Charlie barely nearly survives from the crash as he was dead for about two minutes. When necessitated, he wakes to see Sam’s limp body next to him (i wept so bad) During the funeral, Charlie gets overwhelmed and runs away into the meadow where he sees Sam. Sam reminds him of their deal to practice baseball every day; and he does, for five years. One day he meets a girl named, Tess Carrol (Amanda Crew), and begins to like her. He has to cancel his daily practice with Sam to save Tess’s life which is in danger. Will Charlie ever see Sam again? Will Charlie save Tess in time? NOW I am a MANs MAN but I was in complete waterworks mode throughout the entire movie. I don’t even have a brother, just to show that his emotions affected me as if I do have a brother and just lost him i would have just died. I believe Tess’s role was an essential part in the film because she helped him cope with Sam’s death and brought out his desires again. I just didn’t like that Charlie had to leave Sam in the end, even thought it was nesseccary, I guess when you see the light and your at peace its time to move on. Also how heroic is Charlie for traveling out to sea to look for his lost love Tess and when he finds her half dead, he strips to warm he body with his body heat (Thats showing Love) !!!. I love the ending, wouldn’t change anything. All in all, I will view this film again. This is a perfect film and teaches lifes leasons on how to cope with those youve lost and learn to move on...I RATE this a reat Fill..well directed ....BRAVO...5 out of 5 stars

This was a good movie... this one also made me sad and cryif u love sad movies that make you cry here it is you searched the right one and if your a great fan of Zac Efron this is also the right one but im not a huge fan of Zac Efron well this is a good movie i recomend u to see it.. :D
