The Reckoning: In 14th-century England, a young monk breaks his vow of chastity and flees the wrath of his bishop and fellow monks. A fugitive priest, he then witnesses the murder of a traveling performer--and subsequently, the mourning of actor by his fellow troupe members. He eventually becomes initiated into the troupe as a player, replacing the murdered man. They travel from town to town performing their standard morality play. They arrive in a town where a boy has been killed and a young deaf-mute girl has been imprisoned for the crime--sentenced to death for witchcraft and murder. Discarding the expected bible stories, the actors stage a performance based on the crime. Through the performance of the play, they discover that the townspeople know the young woman did not, in fact, commit the murder. The stage becomes a place where vital human truth is told. Thus, simultaneously, the fugitive priest comes to terms with his own crime and makes a powerful sacrifice, thereby redeeming himself. |

I would have liked a brief summary of the film, not a play by play. Don't read the whole summary if you don't want to know specifics lol.

A gem of a cast, and pretty decent plot. I wish they had delved into it more (investigative-wise), rather than everything come together at one town hearing, the plot would've unfolded much more neatly. Great ending though, Bettamy always has the same long drawnout speech, just like Knight's tale, and I liked him in both

This is one hell of a Movie awesome Defoe and Bettamy are two of my Favorite Actors the're realistic and professional.I love Medieval times Flicks there's something Dark and Mystical about that time period I don't know I always had a Fascination with it since I was a Child and also about the Roman Empire.I've should of lived in those days ha ha ha.But of course with my knowledge of today I'd be a Rich mofo

Brilliant ! [version 3 stagevu is in american english] I was moved by the entire movie start to finish. Simply captivated by the characters, the time period in which this film represents. 5*'s all the way in my opinion. =)

This was a very strange movie for me. Although, it did have good acting and Paul Bettany was great, as usual; I don't think I would ever watch it again. It's sad and suffering...But, atleast they did try to save the woman and make the wrongs right. The priest did try to stay true to God. I used link stagevu and had no problems. Enjoy :-)
