One of the myriad versions of "Phantom of the Opera" except this one takes place with a rock and roll backdrop. No gore. More than a few comedic moments. It's kinda hard to take the movie seriously when you have Paul Williams seen as a sex symbol. Ick. Also, Gerritt Graham's character "Beef" is hilarious! Directed by Brian DePalma and having quite a few famous actors & actresses (at the time) this actually BOMBED when it was released, but has built quite a cult following over the years. The summary at the top of the page is basically is all you need to know about the plot. Just think of Phantom of the Opera mixed with Faust. TRIVIA!!!! 1.The "Set Dresser" listed in the ending credits was none other than Sissy Spacek! Yep, THAT Sissy Spacek! 2.Also, the original logo for Swan Records was a little too close to Led Zepplin's Swan Song logo. Zep sued, won, and that's why you see distortion over the Swan records logo in several scenes, or else they optically placed the "Death" logo over it. 3.All of the singing Winslow does in the film is actually performed by Paul Williams. 4. William Finley (the Phantom) was almost killed in the record press scene! The safeties all failed but he managed to pull his head out at the last moment. His scream however is REAL! Worth watching if your into cult films!!

How did I miss this all these years? Just put on the tinted 70's glasses and go with it. (I actually had to find the soundtrack on CD, 'cause a few of the songs stayed with me!) Found my way here from the doc 'Still Alive.'
