Watch Kongen av Bastøy: Based on a true story: Norwegian winter, early 20th century. On the island Bastoy, located in the Oslo fjord live a group of delinquent, young boys aged 11 to 18. The boys daily, sadistic regime is run by the guards and the principal who bestow both mental and physical abuse on them. Instead of the boys being straightened out with education they end up being used as cheap, manual labor. The boys attempt to survive by adapting to their inhumane conditions. One day a new boy, Erling (17), arrives with his own agenda; how to escape from the island. How far is he willing to go in order to get his freedom? |

This was a great movie. Sometimes slow but worth the wait. I enjoyed it and the end is quite un-expected and I do not think the movie description is a spoiler at all like psypower said the movie is long and a lot is happening during this time. The description summarises well what to expect but at no times it sells out the twist. Without the description i would not have watched it. 9/10

The movie is great to watch, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this film in it's self... only the hosts of the film. Need more links, perhaps one with the ending, and being able to fast foward into the movie? I was watching filebox and it froze like 1 hour and 22 mins into the movie. version 2 has no subs, and version 3 i cant fast forward.

WOW!! What a brilliant movie! Those poor boys went through such horrible times. Powerful and sad at the same time. This is a must-watch, even with sub-titles.

One of the best movies I've ever seen... definitely in my top 5 of all time, and I've watched hundreds and hundreds of movies, probably in the thousands; yes, I have too much time on my hands.

This movie is excellent and very engrossing. 5/5 The firebox link froze at 1hr 22 sec so I couldn't finish it.

Excellent movie this was to watch. I am especially impressed with the acting of the very young actors. It sad to see the mistreatment of the boys. The story is so believable. I would definitely recommend it as a good film. 5/5

Loved the character development, the sense of human decency and lack thereof themes, if only I could have seen the very end. sigh. 9/10

Another great example of the new Scandinavian Film Industry...from a true story,very well done,the Filebox version worked fine to the end,4/5.

An absolutely stunning film with unforgettable characters and a sense of poetry that contrasts with the bleakness for perfect melancholy. As with other stories of youth "corrections" -- and more stories to come from our present era -- when society throws young offenders to the wolves and forgets about them, the legacy is tragic and shameful. Concerning direction, writing, acting: this film is a superior achievement.

Excellent film. This was really sad and very intense. I loved the plot. Stellan Skarsgard was great! I couldn't look away from this film, it was so great!! A must see.
