Hmmmmm ... on the fence about this one. I am a self confessed eco mentalist, and have long been preaching the fact that we are destroying our planet with more devastating effects than what is currently perceived. However, the notions indicated in this film as the cause for the 'end of the world' are more than far fetched. I won't give away too much (i hate reviews that do that!), but what I will say is ... no ... no no ... no no no. CGI is fantastic, storyline is absoloutely rubbish, acting not far from average, and the scripting? omg. we get it. its an end of the world movie. find something else to say if you need to fill time! (if you havent seen the film yet, you will understand after you watch it!)

Using an ancient Mayan prophecy to establish its doomsday scenario, this nihilistic disaster flick is based around the premise that the world's coming to an end in the year 2012. So a massive solar flare leads to a displacement in the earth's crust, which in turn brings about global earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons and tidal waves.

In simple terms, it means we're all toast.

Cue then for some shamelessly breathtaking scenes in which everything from the Eiffel Tower and the Sistine Chapel to the White House and the Washington Monument is smashed and shattered, or simply swept up by giant tsunamis. High-rise buildings tumble like packs of cards, and bridges and freeways collapse down the middle.

The obligatory personal story comes in the form of John Cusack, who plays Jackson Curtis, a divorced, failed novelist-turned-limo driver who must protect his kids and do some larger good too.

But 2012 is really about the spectacle. Imagine a plane taking off on a runway that's crumbling beneath it. A car racing through a street that's splitting at its centre. A cruise liner toppling over on being hit by a massive wave. Or a speeding van dodging giant volcanic bursts. Sure Emmerich relies heavily on special effects and CGI, but these are sights and sounds and effects that you've never seen before. It's louder, crazier and more exhilarating than anything you've ever experienced.

Is it cheesy? Yes, of course. Does the dialogue make you cringe? It does every now and then. Is it often so unbelievable that you have to laugh? Yes, that too. 2012 isn't the best film I've seen this year, but I can't remember the last time I had so much guilty fun.

This is unpretentious, blockbuster entertainment and it beats Emmerich's own Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow as far as scale and spectacle is concerned.

At two hours and 40 minutes, it does get too long, but at no point can you deny that it's irresistibly entertaining. I'm going with three out of five for Roland Emmerich's 2012; approach it on its own terms, and you'll agree it's 200 bucks well spent.

Had Emmerich whittled down his overstocked cast and downsized the soap opera, this really would have been a case of Apocalypse Wow. If you’ve an appetite for destruction, though, it’ll still send you home with a smile on your face.It's the end of the world as escapism. It's an event movie. It's daft. The visual effects are amazing. See it on a big screen.

Action-packed entertainment builds around efforts, not to prevent the destruction of the planet, but to plan for the continuation of the human race.As with "Independence Day," "2012" is what comes of hiring legitimate actors to hawk hokum. And "2012" certainly is all cheese on wry, but it's smart within its means as a palpable, if popcorn, lesson about parental and personal responsibility.

2012 WITH John Cusack and Amanda Peet WAS A GOOD ROLL FOR THEM THEY PLAYED IT GREAT TOGETHER I THINK ALSO I THINK THE BEST DISASTER MOVIES THAT THERE IS OUT THERE RIGHT NOW IT HAD A GREAT STORY LINE WITH SOME FAMILY OUTLINED PARTS AND A LOT OF MIND BEND BALLS TO THE WALL ACTION

I love watching John Cuscak films and this movie was no exception. I love it even though it started a bit slow when the action begins you will love every moment of it. The tensity is up, the suspense of wanting to know what happens next and just the all around film makes you love it even more!

Good film, the special effects and the sound quality are top class i highly recomend that you see this film,

It starts off a bit slow with little action but as the movie progreses it draws you in and leaves you wondering what will happen next, i give this movie a 4/5 could be a bit more exciting at the begining

They had all the money, actors and special effects they needed so how did they manage to screw this one up? Obviously they thought exiting moments were more important than developing deeper characters and that's why this story that had great potential stayed so shallow. The dialog was always cheesy and none of the 'hero's' in this film really showed any real emotions nor did they give any of those speeches that give the audience goose bumps. Another thing that really bothered me was that so much was almost going wrong the whole time. Every second of the film had a 'close call' which made the film seem totally unrealistic. Examples are planes taking off just before the runway collapses or driving just fast enough to not get hit by an explosion. This can be very cool if it doesn't happen 100% of the time and I have never seen a movie abusing this way of creating excitement to this extent. So to sum up: If you feel like turning your brain off and watching special effects and big explosions with a very shallow storyline then this movie is for you. But if you feel like watching a movie with a bit of depth then go and see something else.

“Emmerich’s singularly destructive interests as a filmmaker, as seen in “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow,” are nothing compared to the Vegas buffet of apocalyptic scenarios littering “2012,” soon to flood the multiplexes with the cinematic equivalent of nacho pump-cheese until we’re stuck there, in line at the concession counter, gasping out our last bits of unnecessary exposition. I quite enjoyed the experience, at least the first five or six hours of it. “2012″ is not simply the last disaster movie you ever need to see. It’s the last movie you ever need to see.

3/5 A good movie but I expected a little bit more action. I thought the beginning was slow and it didn't give us many explanations about the Mayas, the universe or God's will. The actors had a great performance, though. John Cusack is the best! Worth a watch anyway.

This movie is outstanding and all the characters in this movie are upto the mark and everybody working properly to built this movie outstanding the special effects are so nicely done to touch the sky. Thanx a lot director for giving us this type of movie to watch by which we can know our future.

This movie is like any other diaster movie I thought the Day after tomorrow was a better movie. This was a long movie and it lost my interest after about 1 hr and 20 minutes I figured out the plot early in the movie it was almost the same as Deep Impact this movie should have been edited and the plot should have been hidden better

In Stargate(1994) he took us to a whole other world, In Independence Day(1996) He Invaded the planet like no ones done before, In The Patriot(2000) He showed us the trials and tribulations of The Americans in there fight for freedom and In The Day After Tomorrow he gave us a glimpse of what Global Warming can do to our planet. It's 2009 and Roland Emmerich has created his disaster film masterpiece and that film is called, 2012.


2012 is epic, exciting, smart, heartfelt, dramatic and powerful, It's one of the most potent and sweeping action drama's to hit the screens in years. I haven't been this moved or shocked by a disaster film since I saw The Poseidon Adventure(1974) and The War of the Worlds(2005).


The story is centered around an academic researcher and his family as they try and out run the end of the world as predicted by the ancient Mayan calender which states the world will end on 12-21-2012(Which will never happen.) It starts out like all disaster films setting up events and scientists telling you there is nothing to worry about and wigged out people telling you that there lying and the world is coming to an end. Then you meet the hero of your story, in this case John Cusack and you get to see his troubles and find out some things about him, and then the the Earth starts to shake and the Global destruction begins and Cusack and his family are on the run from the danger that seeks to destroy them.


Sounds pretty clique, huh? Well truthfully it's not, because once the Earth starts a go-in' the drama and power starts a flow-in'. It's one of the most satisfying films of the year and delivers on it's promise to shock and wow, and boy does it ever.




John Cusack delivers an awesome performance as the father and hero of the story, Cusack gives off a great sense of loyalty and selflessness in this film which is rare to see him do seeing as he has never played a part quite like this. Amanda Peet is great as Cusack's ex in this film, she plays the part of the concerned ex and mother very well and gives much emotion to the role than she has done in the past. Chiwetel Ejiofor does great here as the sympathetic and tough scientific adviser to the President. He brings more power to the film and adds more to the dramatic punch the films has. Oliver Platt is nothing short of brilliant as the self-absorbed and crass as the President's Chief of Staff. He is the villain of the film and makes a rare role out of it (seeing as in all disaster films nature is the enemy.) Platt is cunning ,ruthless and smart he adds to the energy and flare of the film and by the end you'll hate his guts. But all in all the cast delivers knockout performances in this film and really raise the bar for this genre.





2012 is a film you have to go into with an open mind so you can fully comprehended the statement it is trying to make. It's one of those film that when you walk out it leaves you gasping for air and also leaves you thinking about how much we don't respect life sometimes. It's a good film, with a powerful message and a great story that resonates with the heart and soul. All in all 2012 delivers.
