Watch King Arthur: Based on a more realistic portrayal of "Arthur" than has ever been presented onscreen. The film will focus on the history and politics of the period during which Arthur ruled -- when the Roman empire collapsed and skirmishes over power broke out in outlying countries -- as opposed to the mystical elements of the tale on which past Arthur films have focused. |

There is no historically accurate truth to Arthur as such. The general idea of the film however is quite accurate (as can be EG his fight against the Saxons), however the whole Roman theme is just one of the 9 possibility's of the background of Arthur. This Movie portrays the Eastern Welsh belief. All 9 theory's have equally the same amount (little) evidence ;). On the whole though, a great story and nice eye candy for all viewers :). 9/10.

There are many myths, One of them is that Keira knightley is the worlds most beautiful woman and the other is that this was a good film. 1/10 total rubbish

I was especially captivated by Mads Mikkelson's Tristan. There appeared to be Eastern influences in his tattoos, clothing, sword, and fighting style. I love the idea of Lancelot using two swords. And I learned something about battlefield strategy, too. Whatever shortcomings this movie may have, I found heart and soul in it. It was not only entertaining, it touched all my senses, and I felt good when I walked out of the theatre.

Epic story. Done well, this is the more gritter, more realistic side of the Arthurian lore. 8.5/10

It is a very good watch but not an epic. Performances are very good in this film, Arthur, Lancelot and especially Cerdic who show no mercy, no pity and all he wants is to destroy Arthur and anything or anyone in his path (Stellan Skarsgaard is simply brilliant). Hans Zimmer could have a bit more inspiring here, not enough tradionnal or real score throughout the whole film especially during the battles. Not enough use of Gaelic or Celtic in here. The song we will go home over the mountains should have been in Gaelic or Celtic. This film could have been better if maybe someone like Oliver Stone directed it. 3/5

8/10 There are many myths about King / Knight Arthur, this is just another one. Good battle scenes (not as much blood as say Brave heart) good story line how the Brits joined the few Roman Knights and they soon called it Great Britain. However their where many more Saxons than what was portrayed here, this was only the first wave, there where many hundreds more to follow.

They all spoke Latin in those days, maybe you would like that? Just like the start of the new Robin Hood movie.

Sorry got confused with Britain and Great Britain. As for Scottish people not being descendent's, that would be highly counterfactual (almost anyone with a native ancestry would be able to claim a link), anyway I never mentioned ancestry, also you misinterpreted the reason why I said "blue Scottish guys", it was for reference purposes to anyone who never knew who I was referring to when I said Picts.

Worst adoption of Arthurian Legend ever. Historical accuracy was absolutely non existent, there was no Britain back then lol. Although that aside it was a great action film, lots of blood gore and fighting. I love anything with Pictish resemblance (blue Scottish guys), just a shame the film missed out our accents.

@kuniva101 - you've got that round backwards - the Romans DID call that land Britain (or Britannia in fact), inhabited by the celtic Britons, and it was so called even as far back as Aristotle, he described a land of two large "Bretannic" islands, he called them Albion and Ierna. But what there was NOT in that period was any Scotsmen, or thier accents for that matter. Scots are NOT decended from Picts (well a small percantage maybe) The Scots tribes invaded from Ireland about 750-850 AD, centuries after the Romans had left Britain. Historical accuracy wise, this film is 90 percent right, failing only where the historical record itself becomes doubtful. Unless there are some MAJOR archaelogical discoveries, this is as good a picture of Arthur's Britain as we are likely to know.

I do not know how I missed this beautiful, powerful, epic movie for the past eight years but I am so thankful to have found it last evening. While there are many varied opinion below, I found this movie - in my humble opinion - to be near perfection. The visuals alone are worth the watch, the scenery of Ireland is breath-taking, the battles are realistic, and the emotions between a man and a child will bring tears to your eyes. All of the actors from Clive to Keira to Stellan are so brilliant in their performance you almost believe they are real. I have moved this quickly to my favorites, and will watch this many times over. I love history, even fictionalized history such as this. Please note, this movie is no Camelot and focuses on pre-Camelot, so if you are looking for a love story between Arthur and Gwen, forget it. This is a story about love of country, love of honor, love of friendship, and most of all, love of freedom and rightousness. 10/10

I tend to disagree with the historical naysayers: in attempting to give one interpretation of the myriad possibilities for the real Arthur, especially when his actual existence is still debated among scholars to this day, I think the filmmakers did all right. The film gets the general backdrop to his possible existence down-pat pretty well, I think, even if the "round table" knights, etc., are more or less wholly fabricated. Great soundtrack and locations, as well. All in all, a well made film, when I didn't think Fuqua was the right man for the job: 10/10.

This puts a different spin on the legend of Arthur. I like that it doesn't glorify Arthur and his knights, rather it shows a more brutal reality. One in which battle is not chivalrous and glorious, but desperate, dark and bloody. Most performances were very good. Ray Winstone (Bors) and Stellan Skarsgaard (Cerdic) were both very good in their roles, and the other main supporting actors were likable and believable. I do have concerns though over Clive Owen (Arthur). He was very good in the action scenes but I just found his line delivery to be bland. Almost boring. I didn't get a sense of charismatic leadership like I would've expected from an Arthur character. I found Ioan Gruffudd as Lancelot to be a much stronger, more likable character. Besides that; good action, good music, a few explosions and some stunning scenery. 8/10. Oh, and Keira gets a 9.5/10 for being a hot little smurfette ;)
