Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, yes you heard it right Captain Jack Sparrow has returned to the high seas of adventure and the supernatural. In this epic franchise their are 3 main rules that hold true throughout every addition to the series. Rule #1, nothing is truly as it seems in the world of Disney's Pirates films. Rule #2, every sequel is less of a film than the previous installment. And rule #3, Jack Sparrow is a selfish pirate who is only out for himself. Now that the rules are out of the way, it is safe to say that On Stranger Tides manages to break every one of those rules.
The 1st rule that I mentioned, nothing is as it seems is found to be false by the end of the movie. The film is quite possibly one of the most predictable Pirates films to date. Everything seems to fall right into place as you would imagine it should. With that outcome it makes this addition rather boring at times. In your head you figure out whats going to happen moments before it actually does. Its unfortuante too because I always thought that is what made the Pirates series so enjoyable, not knowing what was coming next. But in this you do. Fortuantely even though I figured out the conclusion before it happened I still was able to enjoy the simplicity of the plot compared to the last film At Worlds End.
With that being said, that brings us to rule #2, every sequel is less of a film than the previous installment. Now just because it was a predictable film certainly does not mean it was worse than At Worlds End. As a matter of fact it was much better than the 3rd entry of the Pirates franchise. This is due in part to the fact that it had a much simpler plot than that film. And in my eyes a complicated plot, if done incorrectly, will hinder the audiences enjoyment of a film and lose their intrest. In this sequel it was nice to see them go back to a more Jack central story line. Mind you their are several new characters introduced into the plot, but (almost) every new character has something to do with Jacks character. With literly a few returning characters this feels like a brand new trilogy being born. While it does sum up the story to make it its own film in the end, it introduces enough supporting players (and brings back a couple) to be able to build off of this film to spawn at most a couple more adventures on the high seas of the supernatural. And finally overall I felt the gimmicks involved (mermaids, voodoo magic, and the merciless and volatile Blackbeard) were much more satisfying and interesting than say a 50 foot voodoo queen, a stuck up and annoying British officer, and a giant whirlpool.
Last but so obviously not least is rule #3, Jack Sparrow is only out for himself. This rule is broken by introducing Anjelica a.k.a Blackbeards equally volitile pirate daughter. It is mentioned through the introduction of her character that Jack had a romantic "past" with Anjelica many years ago. It also implied that she is considered (in Jacks eyes) almost an equal to his selfish and coniving ways. So by bringing a character like this to the mix it begs the question, Was Jack truly heartbroken when he left Anjelica behind so many years ago? Well to be honest you never really find out what his true outlook is on leaving her before but it is implied that he still has deep feelings for her, so in return that introduces us to a surprisingly heartfelt moment when Jack would rather risk his own life than risk hers. And in return we get to see for the first time a Jack that doesn't only look out for himself but for her as well. And its actually quite satisfying to see Jack act that way.
So in conclusion, yes I did enjoy this addition to the now blockbuster franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. No it wasn't as good as say Curse of the Black Pearl or Dead Mans Chest but it certainly made up for At Worlds End's confusing and often times dissapointing storyline that failed to bring a satisfying close to a otherwise successful and entertaining franchise. And that, in the end was really all I wanted to begin with. And one last comment I would like to pass on, seeing it in 3D actually hindered the film only because their is a tint to the glasses and their are alot of dark scenes that were hard to see with that extra tint. So do yourself a favor and do without the gimmick of a 3D Pirates experience. In the end, if you liked any of the other films chances are your going to like this one as well.

the movie is pretty great.it features the series regulars, Johnny Depp's as Captain Jack Sparrow,who is as hilarious as ever and his arch rival, Geoffrey Rush's peg-legged Captain Hector Barbossa, who are joined by newcomers lady pirate Angelica (Penélope Cruz) and evil Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane). They're all competing to discover the lost Fountain of Eternal Youth.even though the movie was good and adventerous the old characters were missed and it was not as as hilarious the other part .i would rate it 8/10!!!!!

The fourth and final film,is my favourite of them all.
The cast, and plot, are very good.
Depp is fantastic as you would expect,however the picture is far from good,it is far too dark, and i was unable to watch a lot of the film, due to it being too dark. 4/10

On Stranger Tides is beautifully produced and shot with great sets and scenery and lots of action right in your face with rapid editing. Great costumes, great dialog, great acting. The only problem is, it's all rather boring. Even the fight scenes seem rather tired and unoriginal.

Depp as usual does a very good job with Sparrow and is quite funny here & there but I found myself becoming very tired very quickly and afterward felt glad to be back outside in the sun when it was over.

Definitely not as great as the other movies but a good movie nevertheless. Story-line was pretty predictable though I'll always love Cap'n Jack Sparrow! I certainly did miss the witty Keira Knightley but Penelope Cruz was okay. Not the greatest movie I've seen in a while. It's average.

I thought Johnny Depp was hilarious as ever in his role of captain Jack Sparrow, Penelope Cruze actions were clumsy at times, but I guess that was because she was pregnant during the filming, however the director could have done a better job at cover up them clumsy scenes. I expected a better chemistry between Depp and Cruze... didn't happen. He had better chemistry with Keira Knightley.

Captain Jack Sparrow wakes up to find himself on-board the "Queen Anne’s Revenge", a legendary ship where his old flame Angelica (Cruz) is first mate and the captain is Blackbeard (McShane), the most feared pirate, a Black Arts sorcerer. Blackbeard is attempting to find the mystical "Fountain of Youth" to gain immortality. Coincidentally, that’s also where is heading the newly one-legged Captain Barbossa (Rush), powdered wig and all, now employed by the British Navy. So the race is on. Richard Griffiths, with the face of a gigantic pink baby, has a lot of fun playing King George II. There are also my favourite Mermaids. They're beautiful, seductive, enchanting. Only problem is the mermaids want to... (a welcomed, intriguing addition to the franchise). New pirates, new ship, new treasure — same old rummy Jack Sparrow. One of the wittiest antiheroes to have ever put on eyeliner. He is the heart and soul of the movie. Johnny Depp plays the role like a little exuberant kid with an adrenaline-pumping pirate playset; infectiously charming me and my little sister who kept squeezing me tight, and snuggling her head against my breast. Heartwarming. Despite the many flaws ( Depp's chemistry is less with Cruz and more with Rush, easily predictable plot twists), I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have quite a good time with "On Stranger Tides". Especially given that it was the fourth of the series, it was swashbucklingly ENJOYABLE.

While Johnny Depp is always great to watch.....this movie was somewhat predictable. It was better than i expected as far as sequels go. Usually by the 2nd or 3rd they get too boring to watch. This movie did a good job of changing the story around just enough to make it worth watching.New characters, new scenerios and a bit more humor is what makes this a good movie.

Great film, but not as good as the other 3. Somethings missing but it's hard to put your finger on it. Possibly the fact that it's not really in the caribbean that, theres no black pearl or that they've ruined the mystery of Jack Sparrows lucky 'get out of trouble' moves by showing that they were predictable. Depp and Rush do a brilliant job. Still a great film and would of been a lot better received if not being compared to the previous 3 movies.

Not since the first Pitrates movie have I truly enjoyed them! This one ranks GREAT as far as acting and storyline like the first one. Didnt care all that much for 2 and 3. A MUST SEE!!! Parts one and two were cheesey. Penelope Crujz was fantastic and Johnny Depp well....what can I say,,he is one fantastic actor!

i watched this movie yesterday, it is awesome. thouh this movie has its own glitches, like it is nothing of what you expect of a poc movie, but the story is good and depp is awesome as usual. cruz is a negative aspect of this movie. overall it is a good movie 4/5.

I like all of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies. This one didn't have as much action as the first two. But it was still good. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7. Johnny Depp is as brilliant as ever! He really plays this character well.

Yay, Captain Jack's back. After waiting for what seemed like...forever..I can say I was not disappointed. After the somewhat "flop" of 2&3 we knew the fourth had to be something great, and it was. Bringing Barbossa back into it with Black Beard, and the Quest for the fountain of youth. It's a funny an action filled movie and I really hope to read about them making another...yay..9/10

this movie is great becouse the director comes this time with a movie not like the first three episodes of the movie the things are not like they used to be !! and the cool part of the movie is that captain jack sparrow feels love for the firts time in his life !!

This is how the story goes: When Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with the enigmatic Angelica, he's not sure if it's love -- or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the "Queen Anne's Revenge," the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard, Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past.

The cast led by Johnny Depp (returning in his Oscar-nominated performance as Captain Jack Sparrow), Penelope Cruz (as Angelica), Ian McShane (as Blackbeard) & Geoffrey Rush (also back as Barbossa) is great. The directing by Rob Marshall is great. The screen story (based on suggestion of the novel "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers) & screenplay by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio (both of them also executive produced) is great.

The music by Hans Zimmer is great. The cinematography by Dariusz Wolski is great. The film editing by David Brenner & Wyatt Smith is great. The casting by Lucy Bevan is great. The production design by John Myhre is great. The art direction by Drew Boughton, John Chichester, Robert Cowper, Zack Grobler & Tomas Voth is great. The set decoration by Gordon Sim is great. The costume design by Penny Rose is great. The special and visual effects are great.

This is a great summer movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, your heart racing and your mind guessing, at the same time. This is just as great as the first three "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movies. This is one of the best movies of the summer season, so far.
