Am I the only who thinks this is very Ruroni Kenshin? Granted Tom isn't playing the Battousai but the setting, the plot, the struggle. You even have the Kaoru, the Sanosuke, the Yahiko, Kenshin's teacher, the Dojo. It's very Kenshin Himura meets Hollywood. It's a great movie. Why does Tom Cruise run in all his movies? 10/10 Very enjoyable watch. Please watch it to the end.

Say what you want about The Last Samurai being a white man, or that this is another venture into Hollywood Westernization of Eastern philosophy and setting, but this is wrong for the most part. The story is a sad one based on actual history, and the cinematography and camera work in this was awesome. A lot of people misinterpret Cruise as the last samurai, but they are wrong as Ken Watanabe's character, Katsumoto, is the titular character in this movie. I stopped being a fan of Cruise right around the time he went Elron crazy, but that doesn't stop him from being good in a large number of the films he has done. Watanabe made this movie go from good to awesome, IMO, and is the reason I like it so much.

I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise and I don't think that he's a good actor. However, this is his best movie and best performance ever and I don't think he'll ever be able to top this. 10/10

A little disappointing. I thought it was going to be a lot better than this. The acting was good and so was the plot. But I don't really like war movies. If you like war movies, then you will probably like this.

watched this before cruise lost his mind(?)...the scenery fantastic, his acting ok, the culture depicted well...now it can't be watched in the same way, his actions have tainted it, too bad actors do not know what they do in life either heightens or lessens peoples' view of them as well as their work

A fun movie, though it does annoy any historian of east asian history, the samurai weren't so much interested in the retention of honor so much as going back to their ruling things, they used guns whenever they could get their hands on them and in all honesty they weren't very nice people. Typical hollywood, make the movie let the history hang, but still a good movie, 4/5
