Watch Good Hair: Chris Rock, a man with two daughters, asks about good hair, as defined by Black Americans, mostly Black women. He visits Bronner Brothers' annual hair convention in Atlanta. He tells us about sodium hydroxide, a toxin used to relax hair. He looks at weaves, and he travels to India where tonsure ceremonies produce much of the hair sold in America. A weave is expensive: he asks who makes the money. We visit salons and barbershops, central to the Black community. Rock asks men if they can touch their mates' hair - no, it's decoration. Various talking heads (many of them women with good hair) comment. It's about self image. Maya Angelou and Tracie Thoms provide perspective. |

I really enjoyed it, it explained a lot of things...like why people were always fussing about my "good" hair, pulling it to see if it was real, and only when I was in the US visiting my Dad, never in Canada. I smacked a lot of hands, that's what my Mom taught me, people don't have the right to touch you. I've never really been a Chris Rock fan, but seeing his Dad side is cool. 4/5

If i had to pick someone to do a movie about hair and make it hilarious, Chris Rock would be the one picked. I really enjoyed watching this movie....very funny :D (8/10)

Very informative but I wish he would have also addressed the natural hair movement and how it's currently changing the way the hair industry views African American women.

Chris Rock provides a good insight to the outrageous foolishness people will engage in to make themselves famous. I never realized the hair industry had stepped down to the ranks of the "Miss America" beauty pageants. Cosmetology competition is one thing, but to reduce an industry to these levels preys upon "those addicted" and enables commercially-conceived ideas of beauty. It robs people of hard-earned money which should be focused on life. A very good documentary that adds one more to the list of behavior and industry people can actually live without. I think every parent should watch this like it's an anti-smoking commercial. It was a wake up call.

I think Chris Rock is such a kind sensitive and funny man. His stand-up has me gasping for air from laughing, no doubt about it. But from the first interview on Oprah when he was talking about his life and his wife, I saw this truly wonderful human being in him. He tries to hide it behind jokes, but he really seems to be a great man. I'm so glad that he has two gorgeous daughters who will benefit from his sharp outlook on life. We should all be so lucky to have fathers like him!

I actually really liked this documentary. It was absolutely true, very informative and as a black woman I can understand and relate to what these women go through with their hair. It's definitely a self esteem thing. Like she said though 'Natural hair is Freedom.' It's worth a watch so give it a try, plus Chris Rock is hilarious so that's a bonus. I give this a 10/10.

Great film. Saw it a while back, and wanted to see it again in better quality. But I tried several links here, and they all had an annoying 'Property of Roadside Attractions' label across the screen during the entire movie, so I gave up. I wouldn't exactly call that DVD quality.

I was pretty surprised by this documentary. I mean a movie about "hair" doesn't seem all that appealing but I learned a lot more from this than i thought possible lol. I only watched it because it won the "Special Jury Prize" at Sundance. My verdict is 'good enough' 3/5.
