Les enfants du siècle: The only thing more outrageous than French novelist George Sand's torrid love affair with the decadent author Alfred de Musset and her affinity for wearing men's clothing, was the content of her writing. Though Sand (otherwise known as the Baroness Dudevant) smoked cigars and cross-dressed, it was the boldness of her writing on issues such as the abstinence of marriage and women's frigidity that most contributed to the scandalous reputation she earned in French literary circles. When she met Alfred de Musset, the most gifted poet of his generation, the two quickly became a public cause celebrity while their work would go on to become some of the finest examples of 19th century romanticism. |

Man, they sure knew how to live back in the 19th century. Sadly, at the same time, the mean-spirits, party-poopers, morality police were gearing up to ban everything exotic & fun. Apart from that, this film is excellent. I'm biased anyway cos I love French cinema, but you know you're in for a treat from the opening scene!

The story is really interesting it deals also with the difficult situation of women in the first half of XIX century. Juliette Binoche is wonderful in this role, she is an ideal person for George Sand. The pictures are wonderful. The film is a bit too slow but the viewer has time to live through the emotional turmoil of Alfred and George. This film is worth seeing.

Can't wait to watch this after the comments from Precious 1, adore French romanticism and love love love Chopin. His Opus 1 Nocturine 9 is a masterpiece and was said to have been written after he was spurned by a woman he loved very much.

5/5 Masterpiece. Interpretation is a funny thing. Whether true or false this is a passionate masterpiece. Watch it. It is worth it. It is excellent all-round.

George Sand (Aurora Dupan) who could only break into the writing world of 19th century Pairs by using a man's name and often cross dressing to be allowed into clubs with her fellow artists. She hob nobbed with Delacroix, Liszt, Guy de Maupassant, and her grand passion, Fredric Chopin. The years they spent together produced both their opus magnums. This film is before she meets Chopin and focuses on an earlier passion with an opium addict younger writer (as Chopin was younger also). Thank you!!!!

Stunning. So sad. I cried, but it was so good. If you like tragic love stories, of people who love, yet torture each other with it, then this is the movie for you!
