Few movies are able to faze my calm and unmoved demeanour. This one didn't. But it did come close. The tense moments, the stark loneliness, and the confusion and fear of the characters left me holding my heart. Forget about the insignificant and inconsequential instances of homosexual sex, let leave that to the ignorant and religious. Let's focus on the instances were we meet the most instances of meaninglessness, loneliness, and everyday life we find in this movie. This is a recurring theme in Ang Lee movies including The Hulk.

It's obvious this movie isn't like all the other movies. I wouldn't call this movie a modern romance or homosexual romance movie. Romances are too romanticized. In romances everyone's smiling, everyones having fun, a relationship goes wrong, but everything gets resolved in the end. Brokeback Mountain is not a romance (all caps). If I could call this movie anything I would call it an everyday life movie. In this movie there is hardly any smiling, no one has flawless pick up lines, and situations don't always work out. These characteristics were most likely the highest priority for Ang Lee since this movie was based on real life.

One thing that is not a all real life for most people, but very familiar to me, is the loneliness in Brokeback mountain. This movie takes place in central U.S.A. in the 60's or 70's. This place could never match the excitement of New York or the class of Los Angeles. What this place does have is ghost towns, secluded ranches, limited social events and vast expanses of nature. These things all add to rhetorical responses of the viewers. This loneliness has also lead character in this film to be so emotionally attached to each other. I think that Jack and Ennis would never have their initial intercourse if it had not been for the bareness of Brokeback Mountain.

Another loneliness that is apparent is the loneliness that can be found in relation to the characters in this film. Jack and Ennis were both very isolated once they had fully realized what they shared on the mountain. Jack was married into a family that didn't accept him even while they didn't know he had a relationship with a man. Ennis married an average woman only worried about having a secure family. As a whole when they were apart it was just like their respective families were living for them or in spite of them.

With that same token there was a sort of aesthetic loneliness created by the characters that was really quite powerful. Seeing Ennis walking down that lonely road all by himself just about tore my heart out. Or when Alma waiting all morning when she saw Jack and Ennis kissing each others. Those moments were very important to me because they made me think about the monotony that can be found in life. Why do people get married why do we have to work at dead end jobs, why do we have to live.

Brokeback Mountain has made me understand the reality of my life. There will always be meaninglessness and loneliness in everyday life. Nothing worthwhile can be found in one, two or even four years of life. One will sit back in what ever trailer park they've made for themselves and wonder what have I really accomplished in life. But do you know what will come to mind, all those days spent on Brokeback Mountain.

It would be a complete lie if I said that I was not slightly disappointed with this movie. It is probably the single most discussed film of the '00s. The subject matter alone automatically gains or alienates so many viewers. I really feel sorry for the critics who had to review this movie. If they rated it poorly they will come across as homophebic, but if they rate it well any of their conservative readers will discard what they have to say. As far as that goes, I think it is a very hard movie for anybody to watch objectively.

After finally watching Brokeback Mountain, I really do not see why it is so contraversal. Yes, it is about two men who have a homosexual love for one another, but unlike say Milk, it does not directly promote or condone homosexuality. If the two guys murdered their families and ran off into the sunset together the controversy would make sense. As it is, I just cannot see it. Ang Lee created a touching human drama that should be more or less assesible in some degree to just about everybody.

I'm disappointed only because I found the movie to be a bit of a letdown after all of the hype. At the same time looking back on it, and thinking more about it, it seems more impressive than it did while I was watching it. While it did not completely blow me away, there was absolutely nothing that I found to be irritating about it. It is beautifully shot and presented. All of the acting is underplayed and confincing. Despite being a bit of a letdown Brokeback Mountain is an extreamely good movie, and even if it wasn't, it is a movie that should be watched strictly beause of its social relevance.

the best movie i have watchd till nw.. i watchd it lik 8 time continuesly.. it made me cry so bad.. jake gyllenhal and late headge ledger u have changed my life and i love you both..it completly touchd my heart so deeply.. i wish to find my love like they did in this movie.
