Now that its 2010 and we've already had some truly epic sci-fi flix shown to us in our time, when you see trailers like Skyline's you have to think that this can't be a flop...they must know that we are expecting nothing but a seriously new, original, futuristic bombardment on the senses that leaves us with a very sweet taste in our mouths when the event is over.

The clause brothers are on their first outing here with Skyline using a very meagre budget of $10m for a sci-fi flick. Lets make a comparison here, Independence days budget was $75m, The Wachowksi's clan's Matrix took up $63m, Spielberg's War Of The Worlds had a budget of over $130m, Cloverfield had a budget of $25m and District 9 came good with a budget of $30m.

The point im trying to make is that if you going to try and compete let alone get one over on the above said quality movies you have to go some and one way NOT to do it is to claw together a pityful and useless $10m. It will show in the finished product.

Cloverfield went the Blair Witch way and gave us a mind-blowing thrill ride that worked 100% and can easily sit next to the other big hitters in the sci-fi world as did District 9 and it gave us a different slant on all things alien and proved to be an original, well crafted affair through out which was worthy of repeat viewings.

Skyline however from start to finish left your brain cells screaming in pain asking for a sedative. One of the problems with Skyline is that there is no beginning, a trailer for Skyline explicitly shows a news reader talking about Steven Hawkings views on contacting other life forms and how it could be a big mistake to do so. There is no such footage in the movie whatsoever...WHAT??? so your left wondering how all this started. Even if you add that trailer footage in the movie it's still lacking pretty much everywhere.

The movie starts at a birthday party for one of Jared's (Balfour) friends called Terry who seems to have gotten minted through the entertainment business and is all "Ferrari-ed up" and has the swanky penthouse suite to match. Out of nowhere the aliens seem to attack and what is lacking at the start seems a bit exciting in comparison.

The acting is very much cardboard cut out stuff with even the leading roles over acting with lack-lustre performances and trying to "over-emote" at times making things very cringe-worthy to the avid movie goer who knows their stuff and wants quality on screen from the cast....Taxi for Balfour and Co. I actually found some of this movie very funny...it was that bad.

The script came over very predictable and lazy with very standard dialogue and some of the cast because of this came across as a bit stupid.

Ok, to the CGI. There is nothing new here, in fact at times its pretty p*ss poor. If they decide to do an after thought 3-D version it wont make it any better. When 3-D tech is applied to movies it has to be done through out the whole process and not an after thought, it just doesn't work as well at all. One film that had that failing was Clash Of The Titans 2010 amongst others.

So to summarize: Because Skyline has been hyped up so much and the trailers look great AND the fact that we have some brilliant sci-fi epics already, your mind set is geared towards expecting nothing but something truly amazing and it is totally the opposite. Ideas have been rudely and with insult been taken/nicked from The Matrix, War Of The Worlds and Independence Day. Shame on you....the low budget really showed in this display of directorial laziness. Oh and by the way, its clear they have set it up for whats bound to be a mind numbing sequel so they can make more money out of movie-lovers.

Skyline is one of those sci-fi films that spent so much of their time and budget on special effects, they forgot that a good story is also important, especially with the slew of good movies that have been out this year like Inception that spent as much time on story as visual wow.

Skyline has some nice special effects, but it doesn’t make up for the shoddy storyline, script and acting that envelop the film more than the aliens looking to destroy the human race. We’d gladly hand over these characters to the aliens any day.

Surprisingly I liked it. Okay , I didn't love it , but I liked it. This is the so called tale of two friends and the girls in their lives. When all of a sudden, after a birthday bash for the character of Terry. (My real name, how dare them)lol. a horde of angry aliens decide to take over the world, in sort of a Christopher Columbus type of a way. I liked it because as soon as the aliens showed up with such zest and fervor, I knew this film was not to be taken seriously. The only thing that ended up being a huge disappointment was the Terry character. He starts off with such a bang and ends with less than a whimper. The relationships are weird between everyone and when they discuss what they are going to do to survive the attack things just keep getting weirder. This is another one of those movies that I give my special made up name to, yes, this is "A sitting Duck Movie" and its done very laxidasical. I couldn't understand why people kept looking into the light, I mean don't look, just turn your head. And you know me, I would have been chilling with my dark sun glasses on. And what did the aliens need the light for anyway, when they were so good at reaching out and touching someone. Well, I liked it , I didn't love it, but hey , I have seen much worse, this films downfall was that the trailers really sucked you in, and then the actual movie spit you out. But hey, that's Hollywood for ya. And the young Mr. Faision, ought to be ashamed of his self , he fit right into the stereotype of theses movies, he could have at least try to break the cycle, I love him, but not in this!

well i had no expectations from this movie after seeing its ratting on Rotten Tomatoes, and as usual this film turns out to be one of the worst Alien / sci fi movie ever. one of the worst movie of the year. don't waste your money on it. only good thing about this movie were those pretty attracting posters just like the in the movie (the strange blue light from alien ships that attracts the victims). don't even waste your time on it, i mean if u download movies or watch it on sites. hate it so much. after watching trailer i thought if the movie is no good maybe the special effects will give me a visual pleasure but no , even special effects are bad, super worse. i know its a B grade movie but still looks bad if not worse.

everything start so early and ends early too. one of the worst written plot for a sci fi movie ever. awful story with bad screenplay. uneven screenplay. acting is below average. and this movie has one of the insane ENDING ever. i was horribly miffed with this movie. its very rare that i give movie a awful review. i usually find some aspect or something in the movie which i like or interest me even if others doesn't or even if its of no importance. i am a fan of these visual pleasure fantasy sci fi movies like i love those indie or dramas. but this was awful. no lilkable characters or story or anything. crap. i would have given it half or 1 stars but 1.5 for somehow little bit nice effort visually.

I couldn't wait to go see this at the cinema. I thought to myself, "At last a Sci Fi movie that's not predictable and has an air of mystery about it." The main thing that will blow you away is the special effects, they are incredible. I thought the idea of the storyline was good but it seemed to drag out. For the first hour, you're really gripped because you want to find out what these things are, what they are here for and most importantly if they can be stopped. After the hour mark though, you kind of loose your patience with it as it starts to drag out and then most of all the ending. It is extremely poor. You kind of feel that the film makers kind of ran out of ideas so they came up with something completely stupendous. I won't let you into what the ending is though. You'll have to judge it for yourself. I give Skyline a 7/10. Not a bad score but the special effects and the one hours worth of good movie this was.

The movie's plot was horribly misconstrued and the movie was as simple-minded as a children's type of movie. The movie in general was not very good and hope there is no sequel to the trash that was done here. Skyline was probably one of the worst movies of this year, I will not deny that the effects of this movie were decent and up-to-date and did not try to blend into the 3-D category that is so popular these days. Overall, the movie had good effects and a decent storyline but there was no depth to the plot of this movie and as simple as it possibly could be.

honestly i enjoyed this movie, if you are a fan of movies like independence day or even war of the worlds this one will not have you disapointed. The special effects were amazing and on par with movies like avatar and the acting was believable, they didn't manage to hire some no name crappy actors. Now the only thing that was lacking was the story in some ways and that is only because things were not explained very well, so watch it more then once if you didn't pick up on something the first time because it may get confusing, the only other complaint i have for this film is the ending. Now some people may not like because (spoiler alert) it's a cliffhanger ending. To sum this film up it is good but only if your a fan of sci-fi alien movies

I watched this film, and thought to myself. I just lost an 1hr 20 odd mins.As there is no effort put into this film. Lazy writers, as you can tell they must of been inspired from playing MASS EFFECT 1&2. As the aliens look very similar to to Reapers & act like collecters(using humans as energy). Oh didn't The Matrix do that as well??. Watch War of the worlds(the 1955 version) 1/5 for 5mins of the film. the ending only.

At first, I was a little skeptical because most movies involving aliens coming to earth and killing us all (a.k.a end of the world) are s***. No kidding. On the other hand, this movie takes an unexpected twist as well as an advanced step into this particular theme.

Unlike other alien movies, this one actually has spectacular (decent) special effects. I know I greatly enjoyed them. Of course, I'm not saying this is a movie to die for because it is so awesome (it's really not) BUT it is definitely worth watching.

The plot, for example, is well I have no other word except for "creative" when it comes to describing it. Never have I seen this kind of plot in an alien movie, NEVER. I was shocked, surprised, and I loved it! The idea that those aliens lived and survived on the life of a human's brain was relatively new (which is a good thing since no one wants to see the same plot OVER and OVER again). It's always good to throw something new out there.

On the other hand, my feelings towards the ending are half and half. I love it and hate it. Love it because it fits the movie (the whole human kind is doomed but there is that sparkle of hope, aka a person who is special) Then, I hate it because its "wtf! They were about to get it on! How could you end the movie right when they were to fight!? you stupid!" But then again, that's just my opinion. Personally, I'm sure there's going to be sequel. But then again, I hope not because:

This movie was probably a seven out of ten.. I was amazed at the graphics.I am still wondering how it was all started...I know if i was in the movie i would crap my pants with some of those alien creatures like that.It creeps me out when the alien uses his web..man o man do i squirm...

Please just save your money, unless you are really into CGI, which is the only good part of the movie. The aliens are well done and imaginative and there is plenty of EWWWWW! gore for the teenagers. If you have any intelligence at all, however, you will NOT like the ending. It begins in the present, flashes back and builds the characters (somewhat) then flashes back to the present. Inane dialog leads into some really interesting scenes and just as you are getting into it and starting to like it, the end! I'm truly sorry I wasted my money. Despite the rather cheesy dialog and some slight romantic conflagrations, I was really getting into it and liking it; really great CGI, scary stuff. The aliens were unstoppable despite being blown up/set on fire/exploded; they could rebuild themselves. They were feeding off the population of LA, (and later, New York; you got the idea they were all over the place) pulling people's brains out of their heads. In fact, the aliens could plop human brains into their heads and use them! So, this couple in love, expecting a baby, finally got pulled into one of the aliens and at the end found themselves on the slimed floor waiting to get their brains sucked. The guy goes first. He's such a hero that when his brain lands in the alien's head, he does battle and mentally takes over the alien. His girlfriend recognizes him when he touches her cheek in a familiar gesture with his new alien hand. You think, well, he's going to defeat them from within, like an inside job, or a spy? But then the movie just ends!!! I thought sure the earth would end up being destroyed and this couple would be left on earth, after everyone else had been eaten, existing as half alien and half human (because they looked at the light! - and got turned, not into a pillar of salt, but a white-eyed, veiny half-monster) and they'd have the baby and the earth would be re-populated with some sort of hybrid. But no.

This movie wasn't good the actors were terrible, the
only good thing about this movie is that the aliens
actually looked real. The writing for this movie is
also bad. I advise anyone that hasn't watch this
movie to not watch it that is why i rate this movie
one star.

As many Science Fiction fans, I was left gripped when I first caught wind of a brand new, original Science fiction movie. The trailer was simply built to pure perfection, and quickly caught the public eye.
I am left sadden to report that the MOVIE itself did not do the TRAILER any justice! Yes, indeed, you read that correctly. As the movie was built around the typical Alien invasion plot you would of course expect a brief explanation as to why Aliens have invaded - this longed for explanation does not occur. The half told tale behind the Invasion is shown in the Trailer, but the footage is nowhere to be found in the Film. So, unless you watch the trailer before you begin to watch the movie, you might find yourself a little lost.
It had been stated from the beginning that Skyline has been built on a low budget, but after the brilliant success District 9 welcomed after being congratulated for the sheer brilliance of the film even though the low budget they had to work with, Skyline simply has no excuse.
The Science Fiction archive has amazing examples of what makes a fabulous Science Fiction Movie, and unfortunately Skyline simply cannot compete when it stands next to legends such as Alien, The Matrix, Planet of the Apes.
As the film progresses, the feeling of Deja Vu passes over as the uncanny similarities to Cloverfield, Independence Day and War Of The Worlds begin to reveal themselves. That in itself is disappointing.
The acting was simply unconvincing, and of course not forgetting the uninspired dialogue, which fails to bond the characters.
But of course, to give credit where credit is due, the Visual effects weren't half as bad as expected after reading numerous disappointing reviews. And not forgetting the un-predictable ending, which of course creates speculation of a second Skyline, which already looks to be a little more entertaining than it's predecessor

Adding up all the subjects, this film was doomed from the word Go!

I understand this film was way lower budget then most sci-fi films and the visual effects were very well done, but where is the storey? There’s no beginning no back storey no interesting characters it’s just a movie with good effects that seems to take a piece of all other sci-fi movies that have been out in the past couple years. Was it bad editing or what how did this movie get released??

Absolutely terrible.
Disasapointed. It was rushed, no real plot, just horryifingly bad. I waited as long time for it, trailers looked good, and they hyped it..but in the end, just horrid..one thing I learned about these movies is, CG isnt always a great way to make movies....just terrible

Skyline was a really good movie for being made for under 2 million dollars and in a computer room. Compared to the budgets that are on other movies that well exceed the budget on this movie, this movie is just as good. I love the ending, and there are some definite twists but also predictable scenes. Watch it!

watched this movie and i was very impressed with the video quality...tried it a couple then got in the groove and stream quality was really good,I would recommend to all my friends and I have plenty....I plan to invite but am having trouble here to sort out how,i will do it soon...

CRAP MOVIE! Seriously don't waste your time. The worst Sci-fi movie ever made. It starts with a bright light from a UFO shining into a hotel room window the light makes everybody stare and they cant look away, then huge machines drop here, killing people, like its a big deal ....ITS NOT. My favorite part was the ENDING.

Talk about making you want to see more...(Cliffhanger much!). The acting was very poetic with the story. This is just my opinion but the comments about this film are not justifying the film.

The story was similar to War of The Worlds, however with their own spin on it, and the way the creatures were presented was so much more this style of generation of filming.

The acting yes it wasn't the best, but it did match the film's mood. It was a very cliffhanging finish, with those who did like the film want to figure out did it all end just like that...did that guy fight from the inside once he was morphed (that morphing scene was excellent!).

It may not suit everyones taste but my honest opinion is, don't look into the comments much about this let yourself be the judge. I read and was ready for a disappointing film (after wanting to watch it for ages) however i'm hooked and hoping for the sequal to explain what happens next!

I rate this film a nice 8/10 (or 4/5 in this review thing), the story took some down falls but overall kept me hooked and wanting to see the end of the creatures!

The scenes in this film are beautiful, great job with the directing/visual effects!
