I watched this only because of the new release rise of the apes, I kinda like this one better in a way lol, though I liked both movie for different reasons, they still both awesome lol

It's too bad they didn't continue the story about what happened after he entered Ape Earth.

This movie looks great, Tim Burton did a great job making it. However, the storyline was not so good, they strayed too far from the other movies. The new planet of the apes movie, rise of the apes does fit and is a great prequel. I think we can strike Tim Burton's movie from the record. Looking forward to the next planet of the apes if they ever make one that is. 6/10

This was interesting, i would agree on some parts, Tim Burton is a very talented director and has a very unique way of making movies, But to Compare the first one and this, the 1968 movie makes much more sense, What i really liked about this one was, there is a community of apes, in the first there were very few. But the story line(Wohow)not Good. Mark wahlberg's Sophisticated acting, (don't get me wrong he is one my favorite) And the is no way in hell, you can compare the beauty of Linda Harrison(Nova) to Estella. Other way i kind of enjoy it. 5/10

This was a bad remake. Watch the original.

one of the best ape movies. wish people would stop degrading the endings...they made these movies with these endings so's they could carry on with the plots and story lines. if your too stupid to work that out and no nothing about this wonderful saga of films then go watch a film for simpletons with nice lovey dovey endings in them lol. 10/10

Entertaining but stupid. The acting was fine. The apes are scary. I haven't seen the original but I will probably watch it.

An OK film, nothing more, nothing less.

Really love and appreciate Tim Burton's imagination and visual art, he has a style of his own which makes him stand out from the crowd. However when it comes to this, i really wish he could have kept it more 'serious', some goofy scenes really spoiled the awesomeness and trademark of the planet of the ape series, but i still enjoyed this one, it was promising in the beginning and it got better at the end, Mark Wahlberg was a good choice, a very weak 7/10

Pretty good. Most Tim Burton movies are good.

I really loved this one because I felt it delivered that dark strangeness of the originals. It was that strange can-not-look-away-weirdness that made me watch and re-watch the originals as a child. I don't think people give this one the credit it deserves.

I understand what a remake make is, but geesh! This film has so many differences from the original that it's not so much a remake as it should have had a completely different title all together. How the astronaut is introduced to the film is different and he appears young as hell. (Yes I know who Mark Walhberg is.)The humans can speak and are not "primitive", the apes appear physically more human at times, the storyline is located in a jungle, there is no counsel, we see mostly solider apes the majority of the film, not much mention of their martyr, no repetition of the first rule of law: "Ape will not kill ape", and so much more. A remake is a remake, but there should remain something more relative to the original than just an ape possesing the ability to speak and humans fearing them. There were quite a few things that didn't make sense; the evolution of the ape, the planet having once been earth or another planet all together, the detail of what year it is useless when considering the entire storyline, one fact negates the other. If the original had never existed there are still some unanswered questions that could have at least been given a chance to be made sense of in a two hour time frame. The greatest shocker of the original is completely thrown out and replaced by a weak reveal and a nonsense wrap up. I was very hesitant to invest time in this film, but now having watched it I'd say it was okay. They should make a second one in order to wrap up this particular storyline and give it a different title then perhaps they would be given respectable leeway to do as they wish by removing the coattails on which they rode while attempting to cover a cult classic. This film can be entertaining, but does not contain depth nor the debate of morality as did the films prior to this one. I rate it as okay. -Stolee

Only got around to watching this recently. I love all the old Planet of the Ape films but I just couldn't get into this one. I normally like Wahlberg's films too but I have to say I turned this one off after 30 mins and even then I felt like I'd been watching it for ages. I hardly ever switch movies off either. I'd rate this movie 2/10. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is brilliant. Watch that one instead.

Ummmmm, i like the original one.

In comparison to the brilliant rise of the planet of the apes this one is incredibly lame and so so cheesy! Helana bonham carters monkey was just so irratating! Paul giamati needed a bigger role as him and Tim Roth were the only actors who shone in this.

I saw this movie for the first time when i was in my early 20's. 30+ years later i have found that it stands the test of time. I think it is worth the time to watch it if you have not already done so.

there will be a new prequel called rise of the apes which is a reboot, so don't worry you won't have to kill yourself just yet.
