It is difficult to put into words what a movie, about real heroes’ means to someone who has never experienced war, or who doesn’t believe in heroes anymore. To a Marine, or soldiers who has found him, or herself in the middle of such an overwhelming event as the one that this movie is about, you find it at times, impossible to put into words what war and killing is really like. Unless you been there. That’s why I find this movie so very important. Not in just the way it was filmed, but in the telling. The telling of how close the bond of one soldier to another can be, even if you don’t know him. And, more so if you do.

The last fifteen minutes of the film are some of the most moving for me, towards the end, when they are pulling out of the crash site of the Blackhawk, after they had recovered the bodies of the pilots, Sergeant Matt Eversmann, and his Chalk, along with Captain Steele, and some of his men were left on there own, out in the open to find there way to the safe haven of an open air soccer stadium held by U.S. and UN troops. They had to run from the crash site to the soccer stadium. This became known as, The Mogadishu Mile.

The music that was chosen for this film was very moving and fit the action sequences as well as the quite times in the film, the times when the men were reflecting on what they had been through. As when Eversmann talks to the aluminum coffins that holds the body of one of his men, Jamie Smith, who bled to death from a severed femoral artery. He talks to him about what everyone who has been in battle and lost friends thinks of. What was it all for? What did it all mean? And was it worth any of it. Being able to watch this movie took me some time, years actually. But as in the line in the movie goes, it’s about the man next to you…

American Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers are dropped into Mogadishu, Somalia to capture a warlord and his henchmen. A deadly shootout that developed into the largest firefight since the Vietnam War after two BlackHawk helicopters were shot down, and a simple mission turned into a rescue.
The battle ended with the eventual deaths of 18 of Americas most elite soldiers, and the wounding of 75 others, not to mention the killing of about 1,000 Somalis.
The movie is a graphic, ultrarealistic, and exciting thrill ride as it steers you through the entire battle. That is what is particularly so interesting about this movie, since it gives only a fair ammount of background information, and practically 80% of it is action.
Josh Hartnett, plays Sergeant Eversman, an Army Ranger who leads a particular group of Rangers into the city of Mogadishu, and then everything goes wrong.
Ewan McGregor plays a Ranger who is taken from behind a desk and placed in combat.
Overall I would have to say that this is one of the best movies that I have seen so far. The raw emotion and depth in this movie is incredible.
The special effects are splendidly done, especially the helicopter crash and numerous battel scenes and explosions.
If there was ever a movie to see on the big screen, this is it.

A huge cast of mostly unknowns fills out the rest of the players, although Ewan McGregor can be recognized while almost managing to subsume himself among the soldiers as Spec. Danny Grimes. The action is furious, exhilarating, and graphically violent, though the political implications are hard to follow and it's difficult to keep all the characters in order. But what do you expect from yet another Jerry Bruckheimer production?

based on a book by mark bowden black hawk down is truly a excepional tale of a horrific true event that happened in oct. of 1993 19 american men lost their lives on that mission and 2 american marines were awarded the medal of honor by president clinton. when you watch this movie you can actually experience what war is really like. the malica starved over 300,000 of their own people. the person that was in charge and caused the deaths of those innocent people is now dead.

I vividly remembered the news reports in October 1993 of the body of an American serviceman being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu following the battle there . A couple of years later my interest of the battle was rekindled by an edition of the BBC`s excellent history show TIMEWATCH that spoke to the survivors of " The biggest firefight involving American troops since Vietnam " , so when Mark Bowden released his book BLACK HAWK DOWN I opened the first page and found myself unable to put it down , and when I heard Ridley Scott was going to bring Bowden`s book to the big screen I was looking forward to seeing it

I did enjoy the movie and have to take issue with some of the comments raised . First of all people complain about events and incidents being changed , I know how you feel but with any adaptation there`s bound to be bits condensed , the only real criticisms that can justified is that this film version totally negates the Somali point of view ( For those of you who haven`t read the book Mark Bowden writes his account in a similar subjective manner Corneilus Ryan wrote his trilogy - two of which THE LONGEST DAY and A BRIDGE TOO FAR were made into blockbuster movies - dealing with the last months of the war in Europe ) but Bowden`s book is an account of the battle of Mogadishu , that`s what it is - An account that doesn`t really concern itself with wider issues like politics or anti-war sentiment , so it seems churlish to complain about concepts like character development because that`s not what the story is about . I`ve also heard teenage girls complain that Orlando Bloom doesn`t get enough screen time and that they found it too violent . I`m sorry to hear that girls , hopefully next time you go to the cinema you might like to find out what you`re letting yourself in for . As for the rest of the screenplay it is accurate right down to the friction between the Deltas and the Rangers and the fact the Americans were actually rescued by a UN force composed of Malaysians and Pakistanis

Ridley Scott rightly deserved an Oscar nomination with BHD . It`s his movie and he surpasses anything Spielberg achieved with the overrated SAVING PRIVATE RYAN . War is hell and this is a film of stark and haunting imagery of victims of famine , of mutilated soldiers and civilians . Both editing and cinematography are superb with many great scenes like the small stream of American soldiers walking up the street while on the other side of the houses a massive torrent of armed militiamen are walking in the same direction . My only real complaints of what`s on screen is Ewan McGregor`s awful American accent ( It`s especially so when you stop to consider that most of the cast aren`t played by American actors )and Hans Zimmer score resembles that of most of his other movies , but I shouldn`t nitpick because I found this Scott`s best film alongside GLADIATOR

The film was good but it did have some flaws. The good bits where well shot, well scripted and well acted. There were alot of famous faces that I recognised. The biggest flaw I my eyes is that most of the film I just filled with mindless shooting with no point to it. This film is a good watch if you are a hardcore action fan. 3/5
