a great eye candy - the sets, costumes, action sequences but unfortunately this is tough to sit through

Very decadent and aesthetically beautiful movie, but not as riveting as it could have been. Definitely worth a watch -- has some gorgeous fight scenes and very captivating moments of court intrigue and nuance, but it also tends to feel rather long. A lot better than most American and British adaptations of Hamlet, however loose, and the sexual tension between ziyi zhang and like, everyone, is very tangible. In some ways she steals the show from the other two actors -- she's really matured as a performer and it shows. 4/5.
