Okay, this was a good movie I must admit that I really loved watching this. But while I was watching this movie I couldn't help but think that this film seemed oddly familiar like i watched it before but after reading the comments posted I may have watched and older version similar to this film.

I think there is a game for this movie too.

Being a fan of the original and the remake both, this movie was a must watch for me. Only a few let downs through the hour and a half length of it. The characters were a little on the weak-sauce side, the pace was almost to quick in key places. This prequel strings itself quite well in to the 80's remake, though not as terrifying and mysterious. Must Watch.

I must say, this was a pretty good prequel. I'm always longing for "Top" rate actors. But these guys pulled it off pretty convincingly. I am a HUGE fan of the 80's remake... and the original 1956 film (almost as much as the 80's one). So... I'm pretty critical if the remake isn't up to par, like most of them... these days. And as far a accuracy and timeline in relation to the 1st remake, it's spotless. Even the Nordic guy... at the end. He has the same voice... as the guy chasing the "DOG" (with a Rifle) into the American/Antarctic Science Camp, in the 80's version.

So, final critique... excellent... 4/5. I'd give it the other point, if they had used some slightly more "Masterful" actors, instead. ;P

This for me personally was a bit disappointing.I love watching the old sci/fi flics and the thing was and still is one of my favs.Unlike shakspeare,remakes have a lot of latitude.They have room to reintroduce ideas in a new way without digressing to far from the original storyline.This effort falls short of the mark by a long way.Did they try to depict some of the old scenes using modern techniques?...no.Did they cut one of sci/fi's great scenes (The men spreading out around the outline of the spacecrafts shadow in the ice to form a circle)...yes.This is worth a watch,it will fill a gap in your time and will leave you kind of happy but not exactly beaming.Its a poor effort like I said....check out the old version....carpenter was at his best.Acting and sfx is just about okay....no oscars for this.....
