Brilliant movie. I have watched it for the first time ever and I can tell it will a mark on me. I wont ever forget this. I definitely get why its a classic and it very well deserves to be. 100/100 from my side!

This scared the crap out of me as a kid, but of course when you're older scary movies aren't very scary anymore. Still doesn't take away the fact this movie is very well made and the best possession movie to date. No other movie can have this same impact like this one has. Had major controversy when this came out and you can see why. Gotta love classic horror films.

The Real Story: William Peter Blatty, screenwriter and author of the novel The Exorcist, was inspired by an article he read in college at Georgetown University about an exorcism performed on a 13-year-old boy in Mount Rainier, Maryland in 1949. The story's details have been muddled through the years -- perhaps intentionally so, in order to protect the family -- but the boy's actual home lay in Cottage City, Maryland, and the exorcism was performed in St. Louis. Evidence points to the boy's behavior not being nearly as outrageous or supernatural as was portrayed in the film.

Is this the scariest movie ever? just wondering coz i wanna watch it but i wanna make sure it aint too scary ?

I can't believe The Shining and The Exorcist only received 4 stars; the same as AVP. The rating system is poorly done on this site and is due for a revision. Anyway, Exorcist is a masterpiece.
