Watch Hatfields & McCoys Season 1: A clash of clans that evoked great passion, vengeance, courage, sacrifice, crimes and accusations, which changed the families and the history of the region forever. The Hatfield-McCoy saga begins with 'Devil' Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy. Close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, they return to their neighboring homes - Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky - to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon explode into all-out warfare between the families. As hostilities grow, friends, neighbors and outside forces join the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War. |

Great series, the conflicts between the two families are almost like the the two families in Romeo & Juliet.

I wanted to love this...after seeing trailers and reading articles that were at least vaguely comparing it to Deadwood. Ha...I know...nothing will ever be Deadwood. But this falls pretty short for me, even without the comparison. I feel like Costner's performance so far is pretty wooden, and I've never liked him much anyway. It's hard to really get into the characters at all, for me. Paxton is doing a good job, but he can't save the whole miniseries. I dunno...I've only watched Part I, so I'll watch the rest and write a follow up later.

this is a great mini-series. The show was wonderfully scripted, period costumes and old country hill homes were historically accurate. And the acting was exceptional; Costner and Winningham giving the best performances in my opinion. The story of the H & McC's is as old as time, and having lived in 2 of the bordering states for several years each, I heard about most of the feud lineage; this seemed fairly accurate to what I was told by the old folks. Be sure to watch after the last scene, as it goes into short detailed descriptions of the remaining family members and notes that an official peace treaty was signed in XXXXX [no spoiler from me '->.] Wow - long time feud. 9/10 - if you love civil war era history you will really enjoy this.

I have watched the first episode and I have to say it is pretty good...not sure about the accuracy but it a part of the Appalachian culture and this hillbilly hippy chick has enjoyed the ride so far....

Pretty good, better than anything i'd expect to see on the history channel. It had some good shootout scenes for action and the drama is carried out well by the fine cast they've assembled. 3.5/5.

If you're from the Appalachians and know the stories then try not to get your ass all chaffed by the inaccuracy of it. The feud ended in the last few years to give you an idea of how long it's been going on. I think they ended up playing a softball game together. It's a great watch. I don't know why people don't like Costner so much. He plays great mid to late 19'th century roles. Always has. And Tom Berenger is almost unrecognizable. Boy did he get fat. Bill Paxton was well cast as well. The children were too damned pretty though. If you ever go out around the mountains around here where mountain folk still exist you'll know what I mean. It's nice to see The History Channel finally put something on besides ridiculous alien or ghost conspiracy shows. This is a must see if you like historical nonfiction <mostly> centered around the mountains of the southern USA. I'm proud to say I grew up around these parts.
