well there's the money way of lookin at it or the art way - I would guess folks mostly focused on good art actually end up making the most money
Really, i hated Rob's remmake - his original stories are far better. There's tons of old sci fi where The Thing, The Shining etc come from, many having no film versions ever - why not make those? Or an original story? I rekon if its worth making a film, its worth writing a new story.
You seriously feel "The Shining", directed by Kubrick, would be improved by a remake?
