The killers is a great movie showing the problems people face in everyday life with a big twist... some great acting is accompanied by a great script which will keep you guessing what happens next and also is a bundle of laughs though it seems vaguely familiar as it is a bit similar to MR & Mrs Smith though ten times funnier.

ONCE in a blue moon there comes a movie which hits every criteria spot on, and Killers has honed all of its attributes in order to make a truly, unequivocally bland and forgettable hour and a half-worth of tosh. Newly single Jen, played with no charm or skill by Katherine Heigl, is on vacation with her parents when she meets her ideal man Spencer, just about acted by perennial action figure Ashton Kutcher. The pair fall in traditionally quick fake movie love and get married. Little does Jen know though, her new husband is actually a secret government spy who kills people for a living and is trying to settle down. The fact that Kutcher looks in or around 30 years old and is playing the 'I don't want to kill people any more, whimper and sniffle' card does nothing for the integrity of the storyline. It wasn't until I looked at my watch either that I realised nothing more than that had actually really happened for the first 45 minutes. The trailers portray the premise of the film as an unwitting and clumsy Jen being dragged into a kill or be killed quarrel between Spencer and assassins hired to kill him because he's a liability in suburban life. However, it's nigh on an hour into the woeful film before anything of significance even happens. They say start as you mean to continue, and director Robert Luketic has done just that; he began with a barrel-full clichés played without any conviction and then went on to provide the audience with nothing more than an homage to every action rom-com in a drawn-out montage. Admittedly, neither Kutcher or Heigl has strayed far from their comfort zones, which in many ways has served against them as the pair seem almost complacent in their efforts to make the characters believable. At times there is a childlike playfulness between the two, but even that serves to the detriment of the film as the standard appears not wholly dissimilar to that of an amateur school drama production. Even the dry wit of Tom Selleck fails to provide much consolation. He brings experience and a touch of class, but the poor dialogue he is handed just proves too much for him to salvage. In fact, probably the best thing about the film is probably Tom Selleck's infamous moustache, partly because it doesn't get any lines. Occasionally in the movie industry there will be two promising actors who carry a film, perhaps struggling to shoulder the burden of a lacklustre supporting cast which doesn't communicate well through inexperience. However, it is never a good sign when you literally find yourself wincing throughout a film at the sheer lack of chemistry between its two leads. Perhaps the best testament to the lack of quality in the film is that Katherine Heigl cannot even scream convincingly, which is strange seeing as she has so much practice throughout. The shining light of Heigl's career so far was Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, which seemed to set up a potentially promising career. That being said, she now seems intent on penning her name to any bit part rom-com coming her way. Yes, she may have got the kooky, loser-in-love part down to a redundant tee, but it is evident from this that she needs a charismatic cast and script to support her, otherwise she appears as nothing special at all. As for Kutcher, the six foot-plus husband of contrastingly skilled Demi Moore could quite easily have been replaced by a large slab of granite with more personality. By all means, if his niche is sub-standard romantic comedies where he can run around topless for as long as possible, he deserves a typecast Oscar. If he wants to be taken seriously as an actor though, it's time buck up his ideas or just take on twittering full-time. Couples eager to find a movie which suits them both should undoubtedly hang on for the hotly anticipated Cruise-Diaz summer smash Knight and Day. Such a promising movie would really have to go some to lower the bar set by Killers. From the trailers, Knight and Day looks to straddle the line of satisfaction for both sexes incredibly well, whereas Killers attempts to do the same but gets lost in an insipid void somewhere in between. Maybe I've been a tad harsh, it was never intended to be an Oscar winner or one that would go down in the record books I'm sure, but I just can't help thinking you'd have to be void of at least four out of your five senses to really enjoy this.

Spencer is a spy with a perfect body who drives a ferrari.when he's not killing bad guys but longs to give it all up because the bad guys aren't always bad and suburbia and normalcy is starting to sound awfully good. Just as he's coming to this conclusion, he meets Jen , a dumped woman who's on vacation in Nice with her parents; her father, who is played by Tom Selleck is ridiculously overprotective. They don't miss a chance to remind her how normal and boring she is.

Despite a brainless meet-cute in an elevator while Jen is eating Maalox and unconvincing chemistry that's apparent even in the first thirteen minutes of the movie that was streamed online, Spencer and Jen fall in love after a romantic yet gentlemanly courtship. They move to the 'burbs, he starts a business, she does something with software, and it's all good. There are the freaky and annoying neighbors, chatterbox BFFs , a perfect house, and lots of hot sex. Spencer remains retired from duty until he gets a postcard from his former boss, and suddenly literally everyone around him is trying to kill him. It's a good thing he's prepared for just such an event, with guns hidden in the house! Naturally, Jen is flustered, angry, scared of guns,; she goes back and forth between wielding guns and kicking some butt and being horrified and angry at her lying husband. True Lies, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and plenty of other action/comedies have used the same story line, more or less, whether it's a spy who's living a double life or a couple who are both assassins undercover. But True Lies had the benefit of Cameron's direction and the wacky pairing of Ahnold and Jamie Lee Curtis, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith had sex appeal with stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and Doug Liman as the director, Killers has none of that. (It could even be argued that Jolie is actually a better action heroine than a serious dramatic actress.)

Kutcher's not a particularly good actor, but he avoids the spazzy What Happens in Vegas-type of acting he's known for and manages to reel off some of the funnier lines without too much trouble. He's not a particularly believable action hero either, but again, that's not the point. He's the dream guy – impossibly hot, earnest, and protective, but he also has faith that when the time comes, Jen can grab the gun and save him just as easily as the other way around. I mean, we don't really believe him, but you know, it's nice. However, he still tends towards the wooden end of the acting spectrum. Except in Dude, Where's My Car? That was awesome.

I really hate the girl-on-girl hate that's heaped on Heigl, but I can't see her in anything without thinking how much better and funnier Elizabeth Banks is. Banks' timing is snappier, and her awkward and neurotic shtick is more endearing. Heigl is brittle and looks as if she's in pain, even when she's smiling. I don't know why she's universally disliked as a person, but she's certainly not a good comedic actress. She's definitely better in the action scenes or when she's just being plain mean, but only marginally.

The most interesting scene is perhaps when Spencer and Jen, fresh from a variety of gun battles, car chases, and near-death experiences, happen upon the block party in their cheery suburban neighborhood. Everything looks menacing; the stilt-walker looms over them as they pass through the crowd. Assassins could be anywhere. They don't know where or who their enemies are.

This should be a recipe for disaster. It really should. But it's not. It's the summer movie equivalent of Cheetos – totally unnatural, bad for you, possibly cancerous, but a guilty pleasure to indulge in with your girlfriends, possibly while drunk. The characters are goofy and exaggerated, the writing is uneven although definitely funny on occasion, and the action scenes are ridiculous. Maybe my eyeballs are just blistered from the usual summer suspects, and I never though I'd write this, but I enjoyed Killers in its over-the-top silliness.

The film was released in the United States and Canada on June 4, 2010. The film centers on a young woman (Heigl) who meets a man (Kutcher) who turns out to be an assassin.
After a break-up with a boyfriend, an overly cautious Jennifer "Jen" Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) travels to Nice with her parents (Tom Selleck and Catherine O'Hara). While going into an elevator to go to her hotel room, she meets Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). Spencer asks her out for drinks and she accepts. The scene then changes to Spencer sneaking onto a boat, putting a time bomb on the bottom of a helicopter, then taking out a guard. He then swims back and goes on the date with Jen.
After a night of drinking, Jen reveals that she's not the spontaneous person she's been pretending to be and in return Spencer bluntly tells her that he's an assassin, albeit unhappy about being one. Unfortunately she's already passed out and hasn't heard. In spite of this, Spencer decides that Jen's the woman he's been looking for and decides to marry her. When Spencer tells his boss, Holbrook (Martin Mull), his plan, the response is that quitting is not an option. Spencer is defiant and goes ahead with his plan.
Three years later, they are settled into their new normal life. After Spencer surprises Jen with a remodeled office, she gives him a birthday surprise: tickets to Nice to celebrate his birthday and their three years. Because of his dubious connections to Nice, Spencer is less than enthusiastic. When her friends ask about his reaction, they take it as signs of that he might be getting bored and fill her head with doubts.
Meanwhile, Spencer gets a postcard from his old boss and the ultimatum to take another assignment. While trying to refuse him long distance, Jen's father shows up to take Spencer to dinner, so Spencer hangs up the phone, prompting suspicion in Mr. Kornfeldt. This is fueled further when Jen's dad sees the postcard and quizzes him about the XOXX (hugs and kisses), being odd coming from a former boss. Stopping home to change, Spencer finds that the dinner invitation is just a detour to bring him to a surprise party. While Spencer navigates drunken friends, Jen's friends continue to fill her head with doubts over Spencer's lack of enthusiasm for the Nice trip. This is further irritated, when the following morning, despite her attempts to be physical with him, Spencer rushes Jen off on her business trip.
A little while later, Jen comes back (without having gone on her trip) to find Spencer being tossed around their house by Henry (Rob Riggle), Spencer's best friend and co-worker. Spencer screams for her to get his gun (of which she was unaware) and she shoots the attacker in the arm. While interrogating the attacker, he reveals that there is a $20 million bounty on Spencer's head. An unidentified sniper takes shots at them, and Spencer and Jen flee. After escaping, they go to a hotel room where Spencer's old boss is staying, but find that someone has already killed him. Jen demands that they go to her dad for help, but Spencer disagrees. In the middle of their argument Jen vomits, and declares that she might be pregnant.
Heading back to his office for Jen to take a pregnancy test, Spencer is attacked by his secretary (Katheryn Winnick) and realizes that there are others who know about the contract. Jen then reveals that she is pregnant and is leaving Spencer. Left alone, Spencer is attacked by the UDE driver, who is killed by Olivia (Lisa Ann Walter), Henry's wife and another killer vying for the contract. She then attacks Spencer, but then Jen rams her car into Olivia's, forcing Olivia's car to crash against fuel tank. Spencer then shoots at Olivia and hits the fuel tank which causes it to explode, thus killing Olivia. The two discuss their possible future and return to their neighborhood, which is holding its annual block party. When they first arrive they are attacked by the two assailants that were handing out the block party flyers in the morning. They escape and head to the block party. As they walk through the block party they receive many suspicious looks from neighbors. They enter their house to retrieve guns and their passports. Spencer is grabbing the guns when he is attacked by the two assassins, whom he eventually kills.
Meanwhile, one assassin, Kristen (Casey Wilson), one of Jen's best friends, holds Jen's mother as a hostage in a Mexican standoff with Jen. Jen's father arrives and kills Kristen. He then explains that he was the one who put out the bounty on Spencer. He knew of Spencer's previous work, and hired the neighbors and co-workers three years before in case Spencer started working for his old boss again, who Jen's father says had "gone dirty." After seeing the postcard from Holbrook in Spencer's office, he came to the conclusion that Spencer had re-accepted his old job and activated the assassins. He reveals that he had been an operative as well, and that he was actually the target Spencer was supposed to kill in Nice three years earlier.
Wanting to prove that he really did get out of the business and had no desire to kill her father, Spencer drops his gun. Jen, now convinced, turns on her father and reveals her pregnancy. Jen's father realizes that he will be a grandfather, but before putting down the gun, shoots the assassin that Spencer had injured earlier while grabbing the passports, but hadn't really killed. The family makes peace by building a trust circle, in which Spencer reveals that English isn't his first language, and that he wanted to be the first one to say "I love you" to Jen. The movie ends showing Spencer and Jen's father working on some wires near Spencer and Jen's baby's crib. Spencer and Jen then leave to let Jen's mom and dad babysit. They all leave the room, but Spencer comes back in to activate the lasers protecting the baby.

Filming began in the fall of 2009 and took place in Woodstock, Georgia, Nassau and France.

I watched this movie because someone recommended it to me and although the cast is great I found the majority of the movie uninteresting.

Let me say first off that I am not a fan of romance or traditional romantic comedies and I felt that the majority of this movie was just that. It dragged a fair bit with the odd comedic break but most of the funny content and action all came too late for me.
The plot could have used some work and the characters themselves were on the flimsy side but the chemistry was what carried the movie I think.
The last 45 min or so of the movie was highly entertaining for me BUT getting to that point I found rather painful.

For those that enjoy a solid romantic comedy I would say this would be a great selection to watch, for someone like me who isn't really a fan of the genre I'd find something more suitable
